Smile Now that car prices are in a freefall, what cars are YOU considering?

Just as the thread title says. Car prices are taking a nose dive, making unaffordable cars much more realistic.

Right now, I'm stuck between C6 Z06's in the 40-45k range and vipers in the 35-45k range.

Which ones are all of you looking at?

If i wasn't so patient and hellbent on the next rotary car, I would be looking to get into a new 370Z. Z cars have always been my heart and soul, minus the disgusting looking 350Z.
Used, a '06 Z-06 or a '07 Cayman S hands down!

I want something that is comfy and doesn't have such a cheap *** interior (cough Mazda6 cough). I wish the Acura redesign hadn't taken place, because the 2009's are *** ugly. A low-mileage 2008 TSX 6-speed might do the trick. For new cars, a Volkswagen CC or possibly low-end BMW 3-series. I hope there are some more diesel options coming soon across the board, since I won't be buying until fall at the soonest.

I am still eyeing an '09 C6 but think my money is better sunk into GS, GE and other bargins.

I started as a Z man (1979 280ZX was my first love, first car i did a buck 20, and lost my...well, we wont go there) I disliked the first gen 300, second was good but overpriced, disliked the 350Z, but have fallen hard for the 370Z. There are reasons not to get it though.

A used EvoVIII? I have seen them go for $13k.

I'm considering opening a savings account at a credit union. The car I have works fine.

Id like to trade my rx8 for something that has a stock turbo. But then im almost done with the project and my rx8 is too new so I wont get a good deal out of that. But id get an STI or a 135.

Unfortunately we can't have it both ways. Lower new car prices mean lower trade-in values.

Looking for a 4x4, this week I have a choice between a 2007 Toyota FJ cruiser, for 12k, or a 2006 Forester with the 2.5 turbo, for about 9k.

decisions, decisions......

The FJ would look nice on the driveway, but I know I could be a hooligan with that AWD turbo.

(Sidenote - if you are looking for these desperate sellers, NOW is the time - now is when people are in the hole, after a while manufacturers will rationalize, downsize, cull models and reset prices, and all the bargains will be snapped up and gone.)

hooligan sounds like fun but imagine the shenanigans you could cause with an FJ in the winter.

the FJ is nice but I dont really like the interior. The forester should be nice with the turbo setup. I bet you will like it more than your 8 haha

I went to look at the new 2009 Acura TSX today... it's a lot like the 2009 RX8 because the pictures don't look too great, but it's really nice in person!

The "chrome smile" grill looks much better up close than in the pictures i have seen. It's a really sharp car in black or dark gray. I woulddefinitely get the technology package. I didn't bother test driving today because the rain was bad and traffic was really heavy. Soon...

I gotta feel the VTEC kick in, yo.

The only car I'm planning to buy soon is another RX-8 for my wife. The damn things are so cheap now there is no reason NOT to buy one. In the current climate people are scared to buy a sports car, and terrified to buy a rotary. The only car I can see myself buying over my 8 is a new model RX. Then again, I'm so close to being done with my turbo setup for my 8 I don't need another car. I freaking love my 8.

Personal comments on above:

SL500 is an extremely nice car, but its ironic how it's basically the exact opposite type of 2-seater as the 8. Very heavy, very un-natural feeling, though extremely powerful. I don't know how it would be to have such a dramatic change....

FJ is the ugliest car almost of all time. Jesus Christo!

As for "the new RX", you have plenty of time. Will be a MINIMUM of 3 years away, probably 4-5. It'll be ridiculously awesome, but it's a while away.....get another ride in the meantime......

What would you think is a good deal on one? Lowest quote Ive gotten is 28700 + TTL. Normally that would be a pretty decent price off MSRP, but my problem is I could buy one, and then if I would go back to trade it in in two years Id probably get around 10K. I know cars depreciate but the depreciation rate has gotten so large/rapid that it almost seems like a huge waste of money to buy new anymore.

I'd love to pick up a newish Mini Cooper S, but my wife gets the next new car and well, neither of us really needs one yet so there probably won't be a purchase in a long time. I will say this, I've been looking at 8's with a new found respect though. I guess its the 7 finally getting out of my system. I wonder if she'd be willing to drive one?
