Not Your Dad's Taurus

According to Ford

"the new car will include the 3.5l EcoBoost engine delivering about 350 horses without any mileage penalty."

AWD is an option as well.

One of the better looking Fords I think. Maybe there is hope.

3.5L pushing 350 NA with good gas mileage? Thats hard to believe. What's Ecoboost?

Posted yesterday on the Taurus Car Club of America Web site, the hazy photo of the next-generation Ford Taurus depicts a sedan with a far more chiseled shape than the current model. Multiple creases down the side along with a more aggressive shape up front give the upcoming sedan a European look.

The radical change could be the result of an overwhelmingly positive response to Ford's Mondeo sedan, a midsize four-door sedan already on sale in Europe but too expensive to import to the U.S. It was penned by Ford's European design group led by Martin Smith. Up to this point, a U.S. design group, currently led by Peter Horbury, has worked on U.S-specific models like the Taurus.

Expect to see this Taurus sporting a version of Ford's new EcoBoost V6. The new turbocharged engine promises V8-like power with the efficiency of a four-cylinder. Big promises for sure, but even if it doesn't quite meet those goals, the 2010 Taurus should be one of the more powerful sedans in its class without sacrificing too much in the way of fuel mileage.

Expect to see the official unveil of the 2010 Ford Taurus at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show next January. Sales should begin in the fall of 2009.

yea i was reading that Ford is getting into turbocharging the cars....

EcoBoost is the name for the v6 and turbo 4's...

Said maybe even the Mustang being a TTV6 in the future.....rather than the v8

Funny, last night I had a dream almost exactly like this. It went something like this...

16X pushing 350 NA with good gas mileage? Thats hard to believe.

Then I woke up.

It's a type of forced induction that they're calling it. I think it utlizes twin turbos from the information I was given at the New York Auto Show.

Everytime I hear "Taurus" now, it reminds me of this SNL Weekend Update quote from Amy Poehler:

"After twenty-years, and sales of nearly seven million cars, Ford has announced that it will no longer make the Taurus, forcing many thirty-somethings to find a new way to show the world they've given up on their dreams. "

think of the original ford five hundred and that pic. they are remotely the same, like a Hyundai Sonata/BMW 7 series lovechild. id like to see 350 come out of a NA, but a TT i could deal with.

they should bring back the 3.0l and 3.2l Yamaha V6...and turbo it! That is one sweet engine, NA or with FI. Capable of lots of power.

I think their 3.0 made like 220ish which equalled the Mustang's 5.0 output at the time.

Paul.

^true. As shocking as it is I beat a few 5.0 stangs from a dig in my ol' SHO 5sp. w/ only intake. From a roll, forget about it, the yamaha has about the flatest torque of any car I've driven (from idle to 7500rpm it had very consistent power.) A very underrated engine imo, it's a shame everything else on the car was crap.

They teamed up w/ yamaha to build a car to rival the corvette. Then ford lost interest (or $$) and decided to stick the engine in an f'n taurus...FTL. I swear if they had put that engine in a proper RWD sports coupe it would've been a classic.
