G35x is 3,650lbs....

I'm sure the new GT-R will be quick but I doubt it will be in the same league as Z06 or even 911 Turbo...

would you be suprised if I were to tell ya that the 911 turbo weighs ~3570-3600lb?
yet it generally outhandles the much lighter z06 (~3200-3300lb), weight is not everything in handling. In the end.... however you do it, whoever takes the corner faster and feel more linear handles better. lighter weight isnt everything.

from what i understand, GT-R on a brand new platform is supposed to be lighter than the G35 cousins due to liberal use of weight saving materials like aluminum. the previous gens of R32-34 GT-Rs have also been aimed at the 911 turbo as the benchmark.

as far as i know from C&D's review of 911 turbo vs z06 and not having driven the 911 turbo, it runs neck to neck in 0-60 and 1/4 mile with the z06 due to AWD traction and then Z06 pulls away after 120mph.

eitherway well see when it comes out, and official info are released. then well judge if its a stud or dud.

I'd be very suprised if you told me a 911 Turbo weighs 3600lbs because that's wrong:
http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews.../handling.html

Also, the GT-R vs 911 Turbo comparisons really only made sense for the R32. The 964 Turbo of the early 90's only made 320hp so, and the GT-R was way underrated at "276ps," so they were pretty evenly matched. But the 911 got much faster as the years passed -- stock for stock, a 996 Turbo would blow the doors off an R34. The performance of an R34 was comparable to a E46 M3.

Will the performance of the R35 return again to 911 Turbo levels? I guess there's a possibility, but I'm not holding my breath. IMO, most likely it will be a pretty close competitor to the new V8-powered M3, i.e. not quite the level of the Z06 and 997TT.

Weight... as playdoh mentioned... the GTR is using a modified version of the G35 platform. The last I read said that the front and rear are going to be swapped out with an aluminum frame setup like race cars for weight savings. I think Nissan is well aware of the weight issue and is taking steps to keep it under control.

Power... 480hp isn't such a crazy target. The new M3 will be 400hp... and considering that the G35 coupe should be rolling in with around 330hp, I'd say that the GTR will have at least 400hp.

you qouted one of the lighter curb weights, upon checkin yahoo, its the automatic version thats siginificantly heavier than the manual at 3570lb. most other qouted wieghts lies somewhere in between. Not that im trying to argue over a few pounds, im just trying to say that the 911 turbo is not an light car especially compared to the z06. nor is the GT-R going to be 3600+lbs, it will be comparable in weight. that and that heavier dosnt mean its slower or it dosnt handle as well, AWD makes a big difference in acceleration.

IMO judgjing by the remarks made by nissan officials including carlos Ghosn and the head of the GT-R team (forget his name) they are aiming squarely at 997 turbo. we will see if they can reach their goal, i dont think its that hard to make 480+hp with a twin turbo setup from an engineering perspective, current APS tt kit already makes well beyond that on the weak stock internal of the regular NA VQ35. 480hp on a turbo friendly redesigned internals should be very easy to achieve. Even easier if they bore it out to 3.8L, less than 10psi of boost should do.

but well see. I personally rather it makes 450hp and fall to the M3 category and priced below 50k, then it would actually be affordable.

Knowing Nissan and owning many vehicles from them....most likely the Gt-R will be underrated.Just like my TITAN, 305HP/375TRQ at the crank.... funny how everybody who owns these trucks are getting 268-275 at the wheels, meening the V8 motor is putting out about 316-320 at the crank. Which makes sense because the new SAE rating now rates my Titan at 317Hp and 385TRQ for the 06 models.... So Nissan was sandbagging the competition by a little for 2 years.

Funny that the Dodge Ram is Overrated.....I always love embarresing those trucks including the Ford F150, 250, 350 Chevy Siverado, etc.... Those trucks are gutless compared to my Titan.
