I havent really been a fan of the current mustang range but it seems the new GT500 is getting a bit of a power bump and whats its seriously needed for a long time a suspension that can take corners (it seems). I'd post the the motortrend article but it wont let me on my phone. But still 200+ mph and a suspension that might be able to handle all the power i'd say this mustang is looking pretty decent. I like my rx8 more though =)

While the super Shelby with its outrageous power output is the marquee Mustang attraction, the rest of the 2013 Ford Mustang lineup has been updated as well. The headlines? New hoods, grilles, headlights, more track-related goodies, an available select-shift automatic, and 420 hp from the GT's 5.0-liter V-8.

Since I have a cobra, I get to be around Mustang owners and forums. Cant wait for this thing to come out and hopefully someone buy it. I want to see how they will like for my little rx8 to whoop their ***..

I have seen one hang with a GT2, 996, and a Z4M so I don't pay attention to criticisms of the solid rear axles. Not to mention the driver of the Stang was still a beginner. Same goes for the Corvette's leaf springs. I can't believe I am defending a Mustang
That has been my issue with the Mustang for years... I have no idea why Ford is so set on the Solid Rear Axle.

Obviously it works well so why change it? And this is just a GT.
What you can get out the door at a Ford dealer is pretty impressive.

I'm kind of curious about 1 point.
It's top speed is 200mph. Did they actually bother to address aerodynamics at anywhere approaching that speed? Or does it have to stay locked down to perfectly straight without a twitch of wind to barely hang on to it's stability?

I have seen stangs, camoro's, and other street cars hit above 200 at the Texas Mile without any significant changes to the overall body. At that speed, any street legal car will be twitchy.

Making a car that is powerful enough to hit 200mph does not mean you made a car that anyone is willing to hit 200mph in.
Just like a 1990 Geo Metro can hit 100mph, but there no one in their right mind would be willing to.

I have pegged out a Twin Turbo V-12 CL65 at 155+ and that was as fast as I ever want to go. Even in a well built machine like that it felt touchy on a relatively smooth stretch of asphalt. I guess that is why it is governed here in the states.
i have hit 145 in the rx8 ( no aero) and it wasnt bad. You could tell, but i could still brake hard, still accelerate and pass ok.
It has been my experience in cars with that much power--you really cant drive it on the street well. Its too much. Doesnt matter what type of rear tire you have ( sans drag tires).
Most road coarse guys in street bodied cars will tell you once you get to a little over 500hp it really doesnt matter on most tracks.
Thats insane power and the average person would not last long in it.
But--what a hell of a ride!

You have to think that we must be nearing the peak of regular production car stock HP. I mean how long can the hp wars go on? I was thinking about the chances of seeing 700 stock from Ford or Chevy but I don't think it will happen. The future trend will more likely be lighter with less power.
Horsepower numbers are getting crazy a new dodge diesel truck makes 400 hp and 800 ft lbs thats crazy. I drove a new 2012 mustang gt auto with the 5.0 it was very fast but handled like a boat. I went 165 mph in my camaro 1 time ill never do that again no reason to go that fast things get light and twitchy.
