New Mazda Engine's To Start IN 2011
^^^ RX-8 rocks the 350z just not in the straight line... and 370z well... lets see what the new RX does... hell Mazda wants the new one to weigh ~2700-2800 lbs with the new 16X putting out ~270Hp. Do the HP to Lb ratios and thats one hell of a car...
Back when Mazda sold ordinary cars with a rotary engine, I bought a brand new 1978 RX-4. That 13B made about 130 hp and got 25 mpg. The Renesis makes double the power, meets much stricter emission limits, and I still get 24 mpg highway.
That's progress! Sounds funny, but I mean it. Were there an option to do so, I wonder how a Renesis would do designed for lower power and higher milage. One thing Mazda has to deal with of course is that they are the only developers of the Wankel. Even now, 110 years after the piston ICE came of age, there must be thousands of engineers working on their improvement.

Yes I recall well the brand new LA23S (and LA22S 12A) 13B RX-4.
Computers and Electronics have had a HUGE Roll in improving the Rotary, like the Banger engines of today I guess.
It is amazing how precise Fuel, Air and Ignition control can result in these improvements.
