New Brakes

So I have had my RX8 for about a year now and now it is time to get new brakes (starting the hear light squel). So far I have not had any work done to her except oil changes. While I know that the engine must be worked on by a specialist, I am assuming that the brake pads can be replaced by any mechanic. Does anyone have any insight as to whether I should bring the car back to the Mazda dealership, or should I go someplace less expensive. Also about what should I be expecting to pay to replace the brakes (hopefully only the pads)? Thanks!

How many miles do you have on the car? Are you sure you need new brakes? I would take a look at the DIY thread on how to swap out your brake pads, and measure how much brake pad you have left on your front pads. These pads tend to be noisy even though you still have pad material left.

Also you should be able to find after market pads for between $100-$200 for a full set and anyone (including yourself) can put them on.

I use Axxess Ultimates $100 for a set but they are very noisy and dusty. They work great though. Others use Hawk HP's. Check which type are for street use.

I just stick with the OEM pads.
