New 1.3 l. Civic Hybrid 2006 Beats RX8 on Torque
While HP is only 115 (PS), the torque is 167 (Nm).
|
That may be true but the 8 will make you more friends at esso;)
|
Torque of the Standard Power RX8 in Europe is 222 Nm!!! How is it lower???

Dunno they killed the civic HX off for the hybrids. I got a 2001 hx and I get 45 ( commute )-52 ( roadtrip ) mpg avg over the last 160,000 miles. Guys at work who bought 2002 hybrids only get about 45 mpg on their trip to work, and paid about 7,000 more for their car than I did. Mine was 12,700 out the door taxes and all. with AC installed. ( ac is addon for hx's )
|
yeah you missed the mark there im afraid. 167 NM is less than the rx-8s rated ft/lbs
167nm = 123.2 ft/lbs |
I see my mistake. Sorry.
The article today puts ft-lbs at 135, not 123.2 but you may be correct. |
However the Mazda 3 1.6 MZ-CD has indeed more torque (240 Nm). Which btw gets between 46 and 66 mpg.

Torque means Jack and shit, and Jack left town. Torque (or RPM's) can be amplified to nearly infinite levels with gearing. The RX8 makes decent torque...at the wheels.
|
Any half-decent turbo-diesel will make more torque. But due to much smaller engine speed operating range, it needs a much longer gearing. And you're back to what the Baron just said above.
And as Paul Frère mentions in Yamagushi's book, the RX8 HP has as much torque at the wheels as the Boxter S 986. |
Hybrid still higher to about 4000 rpm
The thing about this almost 400 lb lighter vehicle is that urban use will be satisfying--the peak torque is there at 1000, 2000, and 3,000 rpm vs. 5500 for RX8.

^^^^Who cares?
|
^exactly....for all those people who bitch about HP and torgue.....you bought the wrong car and you should have known better before you bought it. There is so much more to this car unless all you care about is racing street light to street light.
|
i doubt that driving it in an urban setting will satify me more than my 8:) take a look at the gearing my friend
|
Tractors also have more torque than the 8. You don't see many on the streets (unless you live in WYoming or montanna)
