Question Need a second opinion

All right well today is May 20 2009. I currently drive a 1995 Mercury Mystique (Ford contour). Anyways it is the worst car ever and me and my mother have finally come to the conclusion that its more trouble than its worth (i've been saying that for years but who listens to me?) So Possibly as early as Tuesday the 26th will be headed to a dealership to 1. Trade this thing in and 2. Get a new Car. There are a couple of cars have been considering before i start My number 1 choice was a 350z but mom wasn't having that but oh well.

The Cars I have been considering are as follows:

1.Mazda RX-8 2005 or 2007 between $15,000 and 17,000
2.Infiniti G35 Coupe 2005 $17,000
3.Scion TC 2005 $11,000
4.Mitsubishi Lancer 2008 $13,000

Weird Choice of Cars right? I Like the Mazda only concern is the engine, It has the lowest Milage out of the 4 at a little over 15,000 and the 2007 with a little over 11,000. The G35 was actually my second choice after my mom said no to the Z but is the most expensive of the four and has 56,321 miles on it. Of course the Scion was going to be the cheapest but it also has around 56,000 miles on it. and the Lancer amazingly priced pretty low has around 28,000 miles. As Far as My mother is concerned She's with the Mazda because of low milage.

I am about 50% on the Mazda but am leaving my options open. Also I am Leaning towards the g35 or rx8 because they are RWD. What's You Guy's Opinion and if in my position what would you do.

Also I go to UTI So I may be working on my car regualarly.

hmm since a mother is involved with the choice you go with , then get the G35. last thing i want to see is a thread about how rx8 didnt do this and that. not saying that you will, but i see to many kids posting these type of threads.

Having owned a 1996 Ford Contour..I understand where you're coming from. Though it wasn't the worst car ever. Don't get the Scion, it's cheaply made and will give you an image I doubt you'll like.

Honestly it comes down to how much practicality you need, where you live, if it will be your only car, and what type of power you are expecting. I'd eliminate the Scion and the Lancer from the list..but that's just me. I'd get a mazda 6 or a nissan maxima before a Scion or a Lancer. I would go out and start test driving if you havent. Do your homework thoroughly and really make up your mind. Don't jump on the first car you drive (which it doesn't seem like you will since you posted this here). I, myself, have bought two cars, including my 8, with not nearly as much research as I should have put in.

If gas is a problem then go with the G35. If not then go for the RX-8.

I'm with the others who have said to scratch the Scion and Lancer (unless it is an Evo, but at that price I highly doubt it).

The G35 is essentially a 350Z anyways with a couple more bells and whistles. Same company. If you're worried about high mileage on the vehicle now, just think about in a year or so when you're at 70k or 80k. My brother does that now on his 2006 car. He loves it, but the mileage bothers the hell out of him now.

Test drive a couple and see what you like better. I take it your mom is going to be driving this too?

If you get an 05 rx-8, I beg of you to not get the Automatic version. Because 1. 4 gears 2. "only" 192hp to the flyhweel 3. It's slow 4. Gears are extremely tall.

I would rather not get the g35 as the backseat isn't as big as the rx-8, trunk is nearly the same size, but then again, you get more torque, power, and has a better resale value. But seriously, I suggest that you should test drive those vehicles, to see what you would want.

But remember, once you go Rotary, the chances of you going back are unlikely.

OK Lets see to answer some of these questions. My Mother actually likes the 8 for me but she will not be driving it. Apparently she really likes the rear suicide doors. This will be my car and she is writing off her van and getting another car so we will have a total of 2 cars with three of us living in the house my sister not yet old enough to drive nor has a learners. which ever car i get will be a Manual Transmission as I hate automatic now. even though I've only driven my dads Tribute, my grandmothers Explorer and my mothers van. The Mystique is a 5 speed manual and I love it. well the transmission not the car. Gas doesn't bother me Too much I work and don't really go too many places besides work and school and I take the highway to get to both. I live in Florida don't know if that affects anything.

from what I heard from a dude in my class who has a RX-7. the up keep on a rotary is intense. An the 8 is pretty heavy this only matters because we go to an automotive school so practically everyone races at the track. Whatever I get Im going to take way better care of than the mystique since I will actually be paying for this one.

Ya, the lancer and tc are out.

The g35 is much more of a luxury car than it is a sports car when you compare it to an rx8.

Whatever you do, don't get either in an automatic.

I think my RX7 w/12A redlined at 7K. The 13B at 7.5K, but the air cleaner was restricting air flow to the sensor. It seems like it only hit 7.2K.

Remember, this was the 80's. Piston engines would only rev to 5.5K before they would spill their guts, except for the exotics of course.

the upkeep on an rx7 is completely different than the upkeep on an rx8.

rx8s are far more reliable. far away. not even the same solar system.

and rx8s are not heavy. especially not compared to a 350z or a g35.

cancel out the TC and the stupid lancer. they are the slowest, most worthless cars lol I would go with either the G35 or the rx8. Your choice =]

Sorry, I was too scared to admit that

But I sware 2 bad things about the G35. The automatic version is a bit iffy as I think it might have the same tranny as the 350z from the 03-05 version. Also, it's a pain in the *** to clean (I would know), it's so fat and flat, drives me mad! You could notice every single spot of the dirt on that car, whereas the rx-8 has so many curves it hides the flaws

The upkeep on the rx8 isn't that "intense". It burns a lot of oil as most rotaries do, but as long as your drive it hard and keep her filled with oil, it shouldn't be too bad.

It's because of statements above that I have not overstocked my garage with oil. The rotary doesn't burn that much. Some yes, but not alot. I've now contributed to the oil shortage.
