My girlfriend just bought a CX-7
One time driving the loaner that I had while getting my engine replaced was all it took. We went down to the dealership last night and drove off in a CX-7 Grand Touring model. It's pearl white with the sand/black interior. Looks **** IMO. She decided not to get the navigation (which I'm kind of bummed about, because it looks much better in that car that the stock navi does in the 8) but otherwise it's fully loaded. I'm stoked, I have a Home Depot car now! Haha.
We wound up getting the car at invoice and managed to cope with the business manager trying to sell us everything under the sun to add on to it. The next time I buy a car and they tell me I need to meet with the business manager I'm walking into his/her office and saying "No extended warranty, no gap insurance, no to you trying to out-finance my credit union, try it and I walk". Seriously, we sat in this lady's office for 35 mins. while she tried to get us to spend more with them. The only thing we capitulated on was LoJack because we do live in San Diego and in the car-theft captial of San Diego at that (nice neighborhood, just a lot of cars get stolen).
So overall, good deal. We talked them down, got exactly the car she wanted and drove away pretty happy over all. I'm just worried about her stretching a little too thin to make the payments (she's a waitress and part-time model and while she does get a decent amount of gigs, the modeling thing doesn't pay as much as some people might think). But, it's an awesome car, I can make my Home Depot runs, and no more renting a car 6 times a year during snowboarding season.

GET THE GAP!!!!!! Gap insurance is the only thing they offer that is worthwhile. Just get it from your own bank, or whoever financed your car. Dealerships get $600 for it ( approx.) and your bank should be able to sell it for about $200.

We wound up getting it for $27,100 which actuall winds up being just over $300 over invoice for the options she got. Of course the dealer told us we were getting it at invoice, but a little more research shows otherwise. Overall still a great deal for a great car IMO.
Yeah, we got gap insurance through the credit union as oppoed to the dealership. The dealership wanted $550 for it and we got it for $249 from the CU.
GET THE GAP!!!!!!

HA HA......... you bought the worst upgrade!
LO JACK does you no good in SD.
When you go to a movie I steal your car. It's in Mexico HA HA.
Plus I can get it out of range of the signal by the time you come back.

Gap is the only thing worthwhile to get, good job man enjoy. I'm trying to talk my girl into trading in her escape to get one, but her excuse is that its not an SUV its a really big minivan.

Those Mazda CX-7's kick so much a**. The Mazda dealership lent me one when they did the Recall Maintenance. It was the awd-turbo/intercooled one. That thing was tiiiight. The acceleration is great, and you can't even hear it that much. Straight up, it's another beast by Mazda

It's has no characteristics of a minivan. It's more of a sporty wagon crossover. And it's certainly better than a friggin Escape.

She still loves the CX. I highly recommend a cargo organizer or cargo net for anybody that gets on though. I'm currently trying to figure out how to disassemble the dash to install some interior LEDs like I did in my car.

Thanks! She actually started to just this last weekend! She hadn't driven a manual transmission before so she hadn't until then but after she got the CX-7 and I can make Home Depot/Costco runs in it I told her she needed to learn so she could take the 8 if she needed to. She's been wanting me to teach her for a long time, we just finally now got around to it.

I fail to see what is so hard about driving stick...Honestly. It doesn't take hand-eye-foot coordination at all. Push the clutch in, put it in gear and feather the throttle a few times as you let the clutch out if you're learning. 15, 25, 35, 45 for a five speed in most every car. It's so simple it scared me. The first day I drove stick , I had zero issue.

what kind of mileage you guys seeing?
We just picked one up last night. FWD, GT with the Tech pack, i didn't care about anything but the tech pack, had they even had a sport with tech i would have picked it up, it's a sweet setup for sure. The car is great, how mazda can make a car this size handle like it does is just insane!

It's hard to say this soon. She's only filled up once. On the first tank she got 23 combined but I'm not exactly sure how many dealer miles were on that tank. She took the car with 14 miles on it and I'm not sure if those 14 were from that tank of gas or what, but if I don't include the 14 miles, I get 23. Probably wouldn't make that big a difference anyway....
