umm... no it's not hard for me to grasp that, i actually just said that. i don't know where you're getting that information from. It's like you're not listening to what i mentioned earlier. i own a late model f-body and it doesn't have 300whp stock and it really doesn't have 310whp stock. maybe cia intake and catback can net you 300-310 whp with out a tune, but not bone stock. dont get me wrong they're fast cars in a straight line, but you're making it sound like they're way faster than what they really are. it's still a detuned ls1. in order for it to be 310whp it would have to be in the 365hp range @ the flywheel. hmmm that's more than the vette. i don't think so.

Ike is right. The engine is not detuned. The differences in dyno between the Camaro and Corvette come from the exhaust design and intake design. That's it. Camaros are underrated as hell from the factory. Why? To sell more Corvettes of course. A great source of information on this is www.ls1tech.com

Displacement. Pure displacement.

It's all good. I've had my own thoughts of a different car on many occasions in wanting to go faster. But I'm holding out for the GT-R. (honey get my checkbook, this is going to be expensive).

I would build a LS1 FD. That would bring the weight down and give you pretty much everything you want in one shot.

LS1 FD's are so amazing in every way. But building one is not something I can afford.

I emailed back and forth with Hinson Supercars about doing an LS1 swap into my 8 as well. That's another thing I would've done, but that would end up costing $12K or so including Motor and transmission.

Then again, if I REALLY had a budget, I'd go with a 20B.

But within my budget, I'm going to be happy with a Camaro. I realize there are lots of nicer cars out there - someday I'll buy an exotic or something and keep the Camaro as a drag toy.

crimson-rain: That's awesome. I only wish I could afford one of those.

Why don't you just buy a used drag car. Plenty of those for sale.

Acouple of my friends drag race true dragsters.

It's more fun for me to build it myself.

I got my Camaro, and it's awesome! Other F-bodies I've driven in have been beaten on, etc. This one looks and feels new inside and out. The steering is nice and tight - much better than I expected. It's still no RX8 in the handling department, but that doesn't bother me. Once you step on the gas, you get to hear that sweet rumble of the V8 and everything disappears in your rearview mirror. Great stuff. Taking the t-tops off and looking up at the moon on the highway is so relaxing.

I couldn't be happier with this car. Flame away, it's not an RX8. But this car really fits me.

Congrats.

Why is it a fail? Is it because the new car he has puts down twice the power and gets slightly better MPG?

I had a 96 Camaro SS and i ran a 13.8 stock.

But then I sold it because it was in the shop every week and looked cheap and handled like ***.

Fun for burnouts and picking up guys, chicks don't like loud ugly boats.

Just my 2 cents from experience.

The suspension design of the camaro is better than you think. It uses unequal length A arms up front and a torque arm out back. The weakness is in the execution from the factory. Crappy bushing, etc.

Had a 95Z28 before the 8. With subframes, bilsteins, hyperco springs etc. it handled great. The 8 feels better but I cant tell you honestly which would be faster on a race course....oh, wait, yes I can. The camaro because the 8 really needs more pulling power.

Having said that, I have no regrets getting the 8. Its the best "feeling" car I have driven. Miss the torque but nothing a 406sb in a certian C4 Vette cant fix

For the F-body owners out there, please put in some subframe connectors asap. This will really tighten up the car. You will be much happier.

Oh, FWIW, I saw a stock 02 WS6 put down 326rwhp and 342rwtq on a dyno.

It was on a dynojet, and this is the strongest stock LS1 dyno that I personally know of.

Results vary. But starting in 01 the LS1 received the LS6 intake and some latter ones also came with LS6 blocks. Plus the cam specs changed a little the last few years.

305 from the factory,.....yeah...riiighhtt.

Yep, both of them are among the best when it comes to resale value. Hell, when I traded in my WRX I got above KBB excellent and over 70% of what I paid over 3 years after I bought it. I named my trade in value and they took it. The dealer sold it and made money on it within 2 weeks and this was in January. I think '05-'06 STI's and Evo VIII and IX are just going to keep getting better when it comes to resale value, especially the Evos with the introduction of the Evo X.

Wow. I've never heard of a stock dyno that high. No lid, no nothing? That's a factory freak right there.

But yeah. 305 from the factory is a joke. Who would have bought a vette if they said what the power numbers really are?

Yeah, it was a freak. Most LS1's that I have seen dyno around 300 or so.

It may have had a lid; it was a while ago. This car was a little different. Usually headers give a nice gain but after spending 1k on a set of primo headers his car picked up very little hp. Each car is a little unique I guess.

Bump. After just exhaust (headers, off road y-pipe, catback), my car made 340whp/340wtq.

I ran it at the dragstrip yesterday, and it's official - I have a 12 second car.
