If I couldn't have an 8 I'd get a new GTI. I had an '02 (337 Edition). Really liked it, and that was with the old rear suspension. And I didn't have any of the VW reliability problems everyone was having. Not crazy about the way-too-big front grille on the new ones, but it's the only one of that group of cars that approaches the 8's level of refinement, I suspect—feels like a more expensive car.
