MR2 Spyder or Mazdaspeed Miata?
OK I have decided to not get an S2000, so now it is between these two cars. I think that an mr2 spyder with the celica GTS motor (2ZZ) would be ideal. 2150 pounds with 180 bhp, probably 200 bhp with some modfications, rear drive mid engine. Either that or the base lame duck motor but with a turbo. The miata would be great too.
It does erk me off to no end when I try to understand why in the name of all logic that Toyota decided to not use their 2ZZ for the mr2 spyder. Sure, it would have cost another 3 grand, but it would have outperformed s2k's, boxters, z3s, you name it, and STILL be under 30 grand brand new!! It would have totally changed the way people think about toyota as a performance car maker. It would have won hands down every single comparison considering the price they could sell it for. Good news is you can do this yourself but it does cost probly 5 grand or so.
26 grand for 180 bhp 2100 pounds mid engine rwd sounds really good, but I guess they decided they would rather waste the wonderfully balanced chassis on a crappy motor with less pizzazz than a rainy monday morning.
Thoughts?
