Angry Mirror damaged on new car.

I washed the brand new Hyundai Sonata I just bought. (it's been a great car.) As I washed the outside mirror with a mitt, it cracked nearly off, wires exposed.

I now notice that under the mirror there are scrapes of paint and -- here's the kicker -- a very sloppy job to touch it up with paint. Now, no one who hits you in a parking lot is going to stop and try to touch up the scrapes. This must have been done in transit, possibly at the dealership, and someone tried to cover up the damage.

I am seriously steamed, especially because they want $500 to replace it. I know that there is no way I can prove it was that way when I bought it. But I also know that no one smacks your car then stops and pulls touch-up paint out of the glove box and tries to disguise it. They just drive off.

Ouch, that sucks man. Did you attempt to explain to them that this situation is far too ridiculous for you to have to pay for that? Best of luck in replacing the mirror.

I am going to contact Hyundai USA. Obviously, they might think I damaged it myself and I'm just trying to pass it off as their fault. I'm betting some lower-level employee damaged it and tried to cover it up.
I hope they will at least meet me halfway on repair costs. Any ideas welcome.

Hah, I doubt it. Hyundais have really been moving up in the world as far as repairs go. I think it placed in the top 3 for least trips to the dealer for repairs due to faulty build(something like that?) in JD Power. I like the newer Hyundais, nice little cars.

^^ Yes, Hyundai has improved their quality greatly from their first missteps. That's one of the reasons I considered them.

How is your gas mileage? My friend has a sonata and he almost never has to fill up, at least it seems that way. I'm at the gas station every other day haha.

Well, it's a lot better than in the RX-8, that's for sure. Does your friend have a four cylinder or six? My Sonata has the six, with 235 hp (and torque!) and so far I'm getting mid to upper 20s city, higher on the highway.

For a daily driver, this car is as good as an Accord and a lot cheaper.

He's got the 4 if I'm not mistaken which could be why. When I have a family, hoping it's quite a while off :p I'll be considering the Sonata as a family car. The styling has gotten much better as well. But I might opt for the six, me loves teh torque :D
