MB C63 or BMW M3
My best friend is an Internet Sales Manager over at Crevier BMW (here in Socal) and he also personally owns a Phoenix Yellow E46 M3. I've tinkered ALOT on E46M3s, doing suspension swaps, exhausts, and etc.
Here's my feedback (actually was over at Crevier two days ago):
335i (coupe or sedan) - MARVELOUS engines on these things. Zero lag, good grunt, and has definitely the options of upgrading. I think someone here mentioned that the upgrades are cheap? Dinan ECU reflash (which is quite conservative versus Vishnu and others) was $2100 at the dealer....my price through my friend would've been $1450. Vishnu was around $1600-1700. My friend had several customers bring their cars back in because the car went into limp mode and what not because of other aftermarket ECU flashes......Diagnostic fees....$300 at the dealer.
I wouldn't exactly call the car cheap to upgrade. This isn't an Evo X where a Cobb, ECUtek, and etc.....will net you X amount of power for cheap. The BMW flashes are quite technical and BMW DID NOT want you tampering with it - hence it's a pretty price to get these services done.
The 335i / 135i / 535i......all share the same marvelous engine......but be prepared for some hiccups with aftermarket upgrades unless you pay the premium for a conservative Dinan build.

And btw BMW is no longer allowing any machine that has been touched by Dinan to be a CPO vehicle either.
there is nothing the mercedes could offer that would make up for the shameful automatic trans. Even if it had 900 bhp, a 12,000 rpm redline, and 2500 lbs curb weight, I would still take the Beemer. Although the M3 E92 is the only one of the two that I have actually driven, so I guess I can't make a fair judgement.
It's a lot easier, cheaper, and more common to flash a 335/135 than you think. JB3 for ~800 will get you to 380 at the wheels. It's plug and play and installs in about 30 seconds.

BMW charges a hefty price to get the stock flash back on and take the car out of limp mode.
I'm aware of the CPO warranty issues. However, that's for a 100k warranty for the NEXT owner of the car.....it wouldn't really concern me. You get a flash done by an aftermarket company, say goodbye to your manufacturer's warranty.
I'm not saying you can't go cheap with the flashes, I just wouldn't want mine to go into limp mode because of inferior research by the company that made the flash.....then I have to fork over the cash to the dealer to get out of it.
My friend has mentioned that there have been customers who have had flashes done come in because their flashes caused their cars to go into limp mode - programming error.

JB3 is not a flash itself. It's a piggy back device that flashes the engine computer. It has 6 maps in the computer itself, all for different horsepower levels. Map 6 on 100 octane will put out over 400hp at the wheels. You can re-set to factory map at any time using JB3 map 0.
It's not inferior research and you won't get stuck in limp mode. If you take JB3 out of the car, it'll boot up with the standard map as usual because it's not overwriting it.
You only lose your manufacturer's warranty if you get caught using a performance mods. JB3 is plug and play. You can install / remove it in a couple of minutes. Furthermore, when you go to Dinan, you invalidate your factory warranty as well and Dinan picks up your warranty.
Id have to go with an m3, i like the idea of a track car rather than a DD.
Idk how you can put an m3 close to the 335 and 3 series, 3 series are a joke they are just for woman and people that dont really care about cars, they drive them everyday to work and home in traffic and thats about all that car ever sees other than maybe grocery store runs or take the kids to school before work. And the 335 has boost.... an m3 is just raw power and would still beat a 335. Give an m3 some boost and watch what happens then.
