Mazdaspeed 6 in action

Hopefully this isn't a repost.

Everything about the 6 MPS is right on the money. From the firmer, more consistent steering delivered by the suspension modifications and heavier steering oil, to the instantaneous throttle response of that smooth direct-injection engine. Its highly-rigid chassis, minimal levels of body roll, a wonderful, gale-force induction roar, and all-enveloping exhaust scream.
I swear the more I read about this car, the more I'm sure it will replace my 8 next year.

It's a nice car and all, but it just does not compare to my modded 8. I'm still having too much fun with it to even think about trading it for a 6. Looks like a grocery store car on steroids - sorry.

Now when the wife is done with her paid off Passat V6, well just maybe she will buy one for herself - we shall see. She has her eye on the Passat W8, so it could be a tuff choice for her.

Does he mean January 2006, because according to everything I've read, it doesn't even go into production until the end of January.

I don't know about the other 'guys' but I like it because no other sedan from Japan in this price range offers such a complete package. And hows about waiting for actual road tests before assuming things? Don't forget, this is Mazda building it, it'll give the 8 a run for its money I'm sure.

Again, everything I've read says it doesnt even go into production until the end of January 2005, so they won't pop up for a few months after that.

I only have one question, why didnt they put the turbo in the 6 cylinder instead of the 4? Are they getting more out of the 4 then they would the 6?

If production starts in Jan 2005. I guess that makes it a 2006 model by American standards.................

Because the 4 is a global engine, whereas the 6cyl is only available here in the states.

I am pretty preeved that mazdaspeed released a faster turbocharged 6 but aren't doing anything for their flagship spotscar, when I heard they were coming out with an 8 I immediately thought it was gonna be turbo'd, I was kinda disappointed, but it's relieving to know that OTHER companies will release hrspwr upgrades for the 8.

although, I really think they should focus on their flagship.

It is a given that aftermarket kits will give higher gains than factory. Just look at the miata. The new MS miata is sad.

As someone else pointed out, the 6 came out before the 8, so they had more time to work on the MS update. We expect a MS upgrade in 2005 or 2006 for the RX-8.

guys? 0-100km/h at 6.6 seconds.

That's only quicker than an RX8 because it can launch. Look for similar 1/4 mile times, compared to the RX8, and worse-handling.

If you guys want a 'fast car' - get a 20034 Mustang Cobra. If you want a Sports Car, keep your RX8. If you want a pretty-quick Sedan, save your pennies for the MS6.

Easy, see?

Indeed. Very sad, imo. 150whp in the MS Miata = what my 1.6l Miata has with an $800 GReddy Turbo at 7psi + Timing control box.

$23K for the MS Miata...hmm...$20K for a non MS Miata + $5K to FlyinMiata = 230whp.

Turbo 4's

Almost right. You'll notice that a number of manufacturers turbocharge their 4 cylinder offerings rather than their v-6's. Saab, Subaru, Audi/VW come to mind. The relative performance gains are greater in the 4's, especially at the low end where Americans believe the "zoom-zoom" factor exists. V-6's already have sufficient low-end power. Most importantly, however, is that turbocharging a cheaper, mechanically simpler engine yields improvement in the manufacturer's most important performance category: the profit margin.

Does anyone know how many RX8's have been sold so far? Is it selling well? Is there any price estimates with the MS6?

I agree...AWD for states that see significant snow is a MUST...I THINK at least

I live in FL so AWD is just for those rainy days.

Dear Nemesis8-from what I have read the Passat W8 model goes away after the current year. You may be able to get a deal since was killed because of show sales.

Back to topic ...

The MS 6 Looks like it might just unseat the RX8 as my dream car. I will be buying a car in July, which is just about the time the MS6 will be available.

One positive teh 6 has right now is that both my Wife and My best friend want me to get it!

From what I can tell by reading reviews of both, is this. The RX8 is much better looking, and handles better. The 6 is faster off the line, and slower in the 1/4 mile.

The 6 will probably get better gas milage than people think, because of the Direct Injection and turbo 4 cyl.

My main concern with the 8 is reliability, and longevity. Either car would be hard to improve with after market add ons.

Since I am a diver, its nice to have the large trunk to throw some wet suits and tanks in for that drive to Florida over the weekend.

It rarely snows here in Birmingham, AL, so I'll likely not need the AWD, but I am curious as to how that will improve my wet weather and cornering.

There there is the rareness. The MS6 will likely be much more rare, than the 8, but will likely not catch as many looks.

I am torn between a car that will be fast, handle well, with room to spare, and a slightly less practical, yet sexy eye catcher, with a unique yet quirky engine.
