Mazdaspeed 3 Dealer Upgrade!!!!

Seems Mazda has a dealer installed upgrade for the Mazdaspeed 3 that boosts powerto 298 hp and torque to 310 lbs. This is from the latest issue of Mazdasport magazine.
With the Grand Touring Mazdaspeed 3 and this kit installed before you drive off the lot you're looking at a $26,000 bill. AND it's fully warranted!!! $2000 for the full kit which includes cold air intake, cat back exhaust, coilover suspension and lightweight aluminum wheels with 225/45 tires. They claim it's turned the 3 into a race car.

This is why the 8 sell the way it does. I wonder if same kit is available for the Mazdaspeed 6. If the next Mazdaspeed vehicle is the CX-7, I might have to get one.

Good numbers from the speed3...now I'm curious to see what kind of power it makes when you turn up the boost...

The problem is that the 3 is their entry level car, and it has the most power. Their flagship, the 8, has the least, other than the MX-5, which is much smaller. Mazda has it backwards. The 8 should be available with 298 hp. To get all of that performance in the 3 for $26,000 is great but really makes the 8 look wimpy.

Now the buzz is that the CX-7 is up for the Mazdaspeed treatment. If Mazda can't afford to do the rotary engine right then don't do it at all. Mazda is not doing the 8 any justice. I know the rotary engine needs mor research and development but come on man, this is your flagship car. It looks like an exotic, has really cool features, has one the best chassis in the industry and you can't get the engine to put out!

Sorry, I'm just frustrated.

If Mazda makes Mazdaspeed CX-7 and Mazdaspeed MX-5 available before the 8 than we the owners should tell them, as much as we love the car, we're going to badmouth them for letting their flagship flounder. We should let Mazda know that whenver someone asks us about the 8 we don't recommend it due to lack of power.

Before driving either car, I thought it was very funny, that the 3 was faster than the 8, but after driving both, I am have no doubt in my mind that the 8 is the better car.

Mazda has done a great job with the MS3 in boosting power, vehicle dynamics, and keeping the price reasonable, now if they could only work their majic with the 8.
Mazda redeem yourself!:bandhead:

I still hate fwd torque stear.. I can only imagine what its like with that much power being sent to the wheels with that little weight. Sadly I do realize why Mazda is doing the MS6 and MS3 first, I just dont like it. The MS6 was to go after those Camry drivers who want more ump that and for those who dont want a Camry but want some ump! The MS3 is clearly aimed at taking on the Civic Si atleast in my eyes. Mazda just wants a piece of the market share, hopefully after they get it they'll realize our baby needs the treatment

Oh and those Hp numbers in that small car.. hehe I'll admit it is tempting thankfully I dont have the dough for it lol.

Mazda worked hard on eliminating the torque steer in the MS3... seems that they did a pretty good job with it.

The Protege didn't have bad torque steer. There was some, but it wasn't annoying...

I drove a 2001 Jetta VR6 a month back, now THAT was some ******* insane torque steer. Accelerate in 6th on the highway and it pulls to the left. Let go off the gas and it veered to the right. ****, any worse and I could do slaloms by getting on and off the gas.

Mazda definitely could use a power boost for the 8 but the development just simply isn't there. Almost every Jap car company has worked on boosting 4 bangers and even some domestics so the technology is much cheaper to put out the high power. The rotary on the other hand, to meet emissions requirements and make power, has not had this kind of development. To catch up with piston engines would cost tons of $$, time, and manpower. Is it impossible to boost the effeciency of the rotary? I don't think so. Is Mazda willing to dish the $$ time and effort while other power is cheaper and readily available? I don't think so.

An efficient boosted (or alt fuel) rotary will come but it will take much time and development first.

Personally I love the ms3 for some reason and had it been out with the same power I would have considered it over the 8 (price, power, insurance) I know in the end I would have chosen the 8 though. What we need is a wankel 13b in a new miata hardtop, nordic green w/parchment interior - Then my life will be complete.

Wouldn't that be a Kabura? They use the same platform and the Kabura was designed to use rotary or piston power. I really would like to see the Kabura built. I am losing hope that Mazda will build it.

I've been a fan since the first gen miata of the concept (yeah the "gay" one ) and that coupled with a rotary (renisis best meets gov requirements) would be heaven to me. Some day when I have the $$ I'll take the miata conversion offered by rx7store seriously

Or the one that I hope to offer next year for the current generation MX5 with Renesis .

Wouldn't putting a rotary in a MX5(RX5???) make the weight distribution go weird. Making the back heavier than the nose?

Mazda has been tweaking the rotary for more than 3 decades!!! It's not a good design when compared to modern piston engines.

Ask Mazda to build an MX8 and you'll get the 300hp your asking for.

It would be cool if someone could modify the ms3 to be at full boost in lower gears, but that would take away what mazdaspeed R&D did to eliminate torque steer..
