MAZDA2 confirmed for US

A bird in my ear told me that the 2 has been confirmed for late 2010. I'm waiting for Mazda's news department to confirm my imaginary confirmation from my friendly bird.

Hopefully this bird does not make me look foolish.

Paul.

Good, I've been thinking about getting a commuter car and saving the GT for other things.

Yep, got the same news...it is OFFICIAL in 2010, including Canada..

“As consumers’ tastes and attitudes toward small vehicles have changed, we now believe strongly there is a place in our lineup for a car below our current least-expensive car, the Mazda3,” Mazda North American Operations CEO Jim O’Sullivan said in a statement.

This Jim O'Sullivan guy is a bit of a Dick, last year he said NO, NO, we don't want to cannibalize Mazda 3 sales...what a load of Bullshit Jim.
Every other Market that actually Sells the Mazda 2 sells the Mazda 3.

It was ALL to do with FORD...no other Reason...funny how the Ford Fiesta is heading to the US in the same period?

About the car...
Look they are Great Little Car, and the 2 was World COTY 08, but they are VERY light and Tinny, VERY thin metal and cheap.

More details..2009 Los Angeles Auto Show in December

Well its about DAMN time. I never bought the argument that it would canabalise 3 sales. But there were many in Mazda that truly believed that. What it will do is become the second or 3rd best selling B segment car in the US and the best reviewed. IT will take loads of awards int he US .

Why wont it become the #1 best selling B segment car? Because Mazda doesnt have the production capacity to match Toyota or Honda

Good news eh Paul

This makes a huge window in their CAFE score for something more speedy Now if they would just do Hybrid version of the Mazda5 there'd be a huge hole to fill with something that drinks gas like i drink Ice Tea

It'd be nice if they offer the 3 door since we won't be getting the 3 door Fiesta. The only thing I'm not sure about is that interior. It looks very cheap compared to the Fiesta, going by pictures.

Are they going to make this in Mexico with the Fiesta? If we get Japanese made 2s then that's another reason to go 2 over Fiesta.

Finally, there is no hot Fiesta either. Mazda needs to show Ford how to do this right. 3 door Mazdaspeed 2!

Are we getting the 2 door or 4 door version?(or 5 door, thats what they call it)

if its 2 door, I think I will pass

if its 4 door(or 5dr), I will trade my FIT for it.

^+1.

I dont know why but I really love the 2. I keep thinking how I'd really like to get one but I know that I wouldn't want that to be my only car and dont think I'll have anything that calls for a daily driver... I really hope they bring the diesel version as well as the 5 door. Really wondering what they pricing will be.

The one thing that worries me though...

There is no word on whether the car will receive some mild styling changes for the U.S. market, but we wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.
I really hope that it doesn't have the same fate that the 6 had when it was brought over. As long as the changes are minor or actually improve the car, then it's definitely appealing and will sell amazingly well.

My neighborhood's BP station just added Diesel to its pumps. nice. I guess VW's "hard selling" Diesel cars finally having an impact.

If they have a 5 dr Diesel, I think I might go for that. if not. regular 5 Dr is still fine.

Cant do 3dr ...

Good riddance B series, hello Mazda2!

Paul.
