Oh...so now it's only about future design language, and not the rotary? If teasing/bullshitting were an olympic sport, Mazda would win the gold every time.

NA business was softer than I expected. They need to get more people in to test drive the CX-5, Mazrda3, and CX-9 jalops.

Put a literal emphasis on the word and:

"Development of next-generation Technologies is progressing well. Plan to reveal next-generation Skyactiv gasoline engine with dramatic efficiency improvements and Vision model representing the future of Kodo design in autumn of 2017."

They are doing both of these things, but they aren't necessarily connected in any way other than they are both happening simultaneously. R&D of the bread and butter engines is ongoing.

They could vary well be unveiling a next gen skyactive engine, in something totally separate from a vision concept update. There's no reason that vision concept update couldn't be rotary powered.

The Truth About Cars loves to tout Mazda vehicles as the best cars nobody wants to buy. Evidently, there's a huge gap between actual sales and the sales you'd expect from the reviews.

Unfortunately the word 'Vision' had no RX in front of it.

At this rate of the market, we'll be looking at a CX-Vision in Autumn.

For whatever it's worth, in a Mazda Motor Europe sales force meeting in Barcelona last week (test drive and competitors comparison of new KF CX-5), MME managers said :

" Rotary engine will return , but in an hybrid powertrain". No word about model or models.

Full electric and PHEV are on the way (as confirmed officially) and everybody are excited about HCCI engines.

Those engines will have extensive use of cylinder deactivation technology.

You hit the nail on the head. Relaxed CAFE standards that are here to stay are the only pathways to a rotary.

Ehm, the european emissions standards and strong yen finished the RX8. It still meets CAFE standards, you could sell Renesises again in the US tomorrow if you wanted to. There weren't enough buyers to justify production.

IMO rotary as range extender is a dead end. If it's not connected to the wheels, there is no point. Unless the 16x is revolutionary, if it is connected to the wheels, it has no advantages a midrange car market will appreciate. It only makes sense in an exclusive halo car spiritually linked to the FD.

Hey Matt,
Yeah sadly the RE as we know it for past 40 years all my life is dead, (Drove a brand new 10A R100 I back in 1970 with my brother, the last ever imported into Australia, I remember it today, deep dark Mazda blue with white interior/black dash. This was the Dealership I then went to work for as a young lad all those years ago.)

Anyway I just cant see how Mazda are going to make any RE only viable, a hybrid is not what we rotor heads want, but I guess it will be interesting.

Yeah, the HCCI (Skyactiv II's) will start in the all new Mazda 3 out next year.
Car makers (inc Mazda) are saying this could be the last small saloon ever made as SUV's are taking over so much, my contact told me Mazda was even contemplating not building a new gen Mazda 3 as sales/production have slowed so much.
Now SUV's for Mazda in Australia sell more than Mazda 2,3,6 combined. (over 50%).

Frey?s Mazda Classic Car Museum, the Mazda Museum in Augsburg

Here guys if you are interested, this is the just opened Mazda Museum in Europe.
The private Mazda Dealer in Germany which did all this for the past 30 odd years was and is Walter Frey of Frey Auto's, Walter has 3 Dealerships with his sons and is a Mazda nut and started collecting back in 1980's.

He bought some rare models from Australia and parts.

Walter (Dealer Principal) got to know me and I know his Parts Manager in fairly regular contact and we supply some old parts for the Museum cars.

Anyway great to see his dream come alive, Walter is the white haired guy.

Hey Ash, what's up? always nice to read you ...

Yes, also here in Eu this is the market situation....i think there is room for sedans only in "driver oriented models" like the new new Alfa Giulia (RWD, high power engines, super evolved suspensions)

The rest of the market is dominated by SUV in all forms.

My wife and my daughter also wants one

My son is waiting for our NA
