^ Great point 9krpmrx8. Of course it has nothing to do with the CX-5 directly, but in practically all of Mazda's recent ads, and now this subtle nod on the CX screen, they've gone out of their way to keep the Rotary in clear sight despite the death of the RX-8. This is encouraging to the enthusiast.

Nice video... Really makes you appreciate the effort that can go into photography.
It really helps to see it in motion like that. It gives a much better feel for the angles and dimensions. I'd definitely take back some of my initial concerns from the pictures after seeing the video.
It sounds like the Tokyo show is supposed to be the "debut" for it... If that's the case, then I wouldn't expect it to show up.

Mazda to launch four redesigned models by 2014 - report
Mazda's product lineup is about to get a major overhaul as a new report is indicating the company will introduce four redesigned models by 2014.
Things will kick off with the launch of the redesigned CX-5, but the big news is an all-new Mazda6 which is expected to be introduced late next year. Previewed by the Takeri concept, the production model will likely feature a sportier appearance and a variety of fuel efficient engines.
Furthermore, Mazda will reportedly introduce redesigned versions of the Mazda3, MX-5 and CX-9 in 2013.
According to Automotive News, all the models will have Skyactiv technologies and ride on lightweight platforms which were created in-house.

I can't wait to see their designs for the new MX-5 and 3. The CX-9 will be interesting to see choice of powertrain. Will they do a larger turbo diesel (Skyactiv-D)?
The concept car for ND MX-5 will be the biggest Mazda hype for a while when it is shown with Kodo styling.

the gasoline engine is a big question too....SA 2.0 Turbocharged? (the turbocharging of SA gasoline was not ruled out by Yamanouchi in a interview "not in short times" he said..)

If they plan to continue the Speed3, they are likely secretly working on a turbo SA. I doubt we'll ever see an in-house V6 from Mazda again.

exciting news Ash, I can't wait to see what the 3 looks like and as mentioned; what engine they decide to go with for the 'lil MX-5
The CX-9 is quickly becoming a competitor in that market so lets hope they offer a few different engine types as diesel is still slow to catch on here state side.
Although, I am seeing more of them and the recent BMW diesel commercials are quite good in showing the consumer how far along Diesel cars have come.
Gone are the days of the Mercedes 300 SDL producing massive black clouds every time they'd smash the accelerator. (and seemingly go nowhere)

I don't get why Europe and UK does not get any SA in the updated 3??
Or MME are waiting for new year and start of your spring??
Or MMC does not have the SA production capacity??

IMO they will go 2.0 in the new MX-5 (same as SA Mazda 3).
CX-9 has never been a all Mazda Engine, it is a Ford V6 Engine like MZR...future CX-9 will be slightly smaller, much lighter and Diesel.
Dunno about MS3, I am thinking it will be finishing at the end of this Gen Mazda 3 when all MZR's engines will end.

I am behind Mazda's diesel push and the new 6 will have it but the US market may not appreciate a loss of cylinders and hp in exchange for increased torque and fuel economy especially in the CX-9. The CX-9 drives like a dream (Amazing for an SUV), they have won all kinds of awards and sell well. Will they do the same output for CX-5 and CX-9? I pray that is not the plan.
As for MPS (Mazdaspeed), I patiently await the announcement of direction.
Paul.

Nice video. It makes me REALLY disappointed with Subaru and Toyota. Their new cars, designed for performance driving, look boring in their videos compared to what Mazda accomplished. They manage to make their sedans seem like more fun than others' sports coupes.
Really digging the new design language. Can't wait to see some of the upcoming designs on the road!
