So no mention of the new Mazda rotary hybrid in here? I told you the legend would never die! Build it MAZDA https://www.autoblog.com/2023/10/24/...o-show-reveal/
The "Vision" was supposed to be the RX9, which was touted as the RX8's rotary powered successor.
If you want to talk about a hybrid, don't think it'll be an RX.
If Mazda badges some soccer mom lame toaster oven mall crawler an RX, it'll be a traveshamockery.
Mazda trolled rotary owners for several years before everyone realized it was a pipe dream because the technology doesn't exist, or isn't practical enough to meet clean air standards.
A lame teeny rotary range extender hybrid concept that may or may not be produced is NOT
what the RX9 Mazda concept was promised to be.
If you want to talk about something other than a true rotary powered sports car, which is what Mazda teased going on 10 years ago, find another thread and quit perpetuating the "Vision" Myth.
It's the Bigfoot of sports cars.
They keep moving the goalposts back and people keep thinking the rotary engine powered sports car will return.
The promise of the RX9 is as dead as the Dodo.
WAKE UP, the dream is over.

This is what was promised.
...in 2015, post #1.
Note "Skyactiv-R" rotary engine.
JUST "R".
This latest pipe dream compares itself to an automatic transmission Ferrari.
It's fugly.
They specify over 300 HP, but don't offer any other specific power train details.
The only concrete Mazda rotary application is in the MX-30 "e-Skyactiv-R-EV"
NOT "Skyactiv-R ", no RX.
The "e-Skyactiv R-EV" is not a rotary, not a "Vision".
Just another generic looking SUV/Crossover.
Not a sports car.
The 'rotary' component is a glorified alternator.
Concepts are fun, but nothing based in reality.
Case in point, the 4 rotor Wankel powered Corvette.
You keep dreaming.
Eventually, reality sets in.

Rotary sports cars are not dead. (A kind of renaissance atm with so much content around them).
We don't have the money to buy an FD. Therefore, my bank account is what's dead.
Who needs a vegan RX7 when you can still buy the og.

I just sunk about $10k into mine.
The topic is the "Vision" concept.
Hybrid EVs are not what Mazda was teasing when they announced the Vision concept.
The people who keep thinking Mazda is going to make the Wankel IC powered RWD sports car keep latching onto every Mazda blurb with the word "rotary" in the article are the issue.
Unless there's some revolutionary breakthrough that allows for an oil injected Wankel to meet 'clean air' emissions standards, it's never going to happen.

The first RX9 rumors go back to 2007 well before the RX8 was discontinued.
16 years is a long time for wishful thinking.

Are people seriously against discussing the new rotary concept in the thread to discuss rotary vision concepts in the general automotive section of the RX8 forum? here is the link to the press release, in the words of MAZDA it says Rotary and Concept in it: https://newsroom.mazda.com/en/public...ving%E2%80%9D.

Concepts and visions are NOT promises, there was never any "promise." The vision has evolved with the company and so should your understanding. There WILL be another installment of the rotary engine and what form it will take was always meant to be an open topic for discussion. MAZDA themselves recognize this, that they need to adapt to the new era (as they state in the press release), even if it is not YOUR vision, keeping the rotary alive in someway keeps the niche relevant and the racing heritage from fading into obscurity.

The problem for me is not if it's going to happen. From what I gather, it probably is.
The problem is that we're talking about a 100k eur/usd price tag product. Not for enthusiasts.
On the other hand, you could interpret the recent 13b rew and msp price hikes as a sort of phasing out the rotary as an ice?
Seems everything fun and affordable is being phased out until we're left with glorified golf karts

My point is there are many other threads here talking about Mazda's concepts, and patents, and skyactiv and range extenders, blahblahblahblah.
Take that nonsense somewhere else.
Or, better yet, start another thread specifically for the RX 789 or whatever the latest fantasy is about.
There was even an RX10 thread.
This thread is about the RX VISION concept that trolled this whole forum for years.
There are other Vision threads as well. Hours of discussion about it ensued.
It's just a colossal timesuck like the Isuzu swap thread.
Don't respond directly to my post about your pipe dream of saving money for an RX9, then expect me to continue drinking the Dorito Koolaid from yet another hypothetical troll job that's not an RX9.
It's not going to happen in the manner of the original post from 2015, so let the RX Vision die until Mazda officially announces a production date.
Let it die.

77 cylinders, 4 rotors...
I think you made your point...
But I think you are incorrect. The rotary is being mass produced again, for the first time in 12 years.
The cost of Mazda new engines has doubled per Team. (He's right, I saw it too) That is a good sign also.
It may not be how you like, but it is a step, and a very positive one. To deny that, is to also deny reality, which you are asserting others are doing here.

In fact, I think we can use BC as a contrary indicator. He has capitulated, that means this is the bottom.
I'll bet the above statement proves correct as the years unwind.

They're building new engines because there's a demand for them.
I posted an article well over a year ago stating they were still building new engines, they just weren't making it to America because of the supply chain issues.
Enthusiasts realize there will never be another rotary IC sports car produced, so they, like me, are investing in their classic, or approaching classic status rotary sports cars.
If the engines were easy to repair or rebuild like a piston engine, I'd wager they wouldn't be building them still.
If anything, this helps prove my point that they'll never build a new Rx-Vision, which is what this thread is supposed to be about.
Mazda can still make money selling rotary engines, they just can't build a new rotary that can meet emissions standards.
Maybe if they can figure it out, they will, but I'd still bet against it.
Still, no RX Vision.

Well, it's a little confusing, tbh.
What points were you referring to?
The 'above' post was you saying I was wrong about something, which I don't understand since my whole point is people are in the RX Vision Concept thread using examples of anything but the RX Vision to wish it into existence.
If it's something else, it definitely went over my head.

Registered
Well some idiot decided to do a rew swap instead. Half the time it feels like I'd have an easier time making my own car instead of working around other people's designs.
Rx vision should have roughly the same wheelbase as the rx8. So could probably just use the subframes/drivetrain components. Then build a tubeframe how you want. Body panels and registration would be the only painful part I think.
