Hot off the Press, Toyota are to discontinue all Diesels in cars in Europe by the end of this year 2018.

Along with the EU banning them in by start of the 20's.

VW really stuffed the Diesel market well and truly, it will never recover.

Frankly I think Mazda in US are mad to even consider a CX-5 Diesel, FFS just put the Gas Turbo in it...if you have to de-tune slightly do so.

See again the BS Mazda does, they really NEVER learn.

Here in Australia we once had a Diesel in every model ,now only the 6 and that will go (IMO) once the 2.5T is out.
CX-3, Mazda2, Mazda3 diesels are all gone, they just don't sell...crap reliability and much higher service costs.
Diesel fuel here has been lower price per litre than gasoline for the past year, it has never been cheaper than gas ever, why, because it is not selling.

UnknownJinX 03-07-2018 01:33 AM

I think Skyactiv-X would make diesel obsolete.

Fuck diesels, especially those dirty ass diesel buses in my city. Go electric already, God damn it.

9krpmrx8 03-07-2018 11:18 AM

It's funny, someone just mentioned yesterday that the diesel Hilux was coming to the states and someone else told me there is going to be a new diesel F150.

NotAPreppie 03-07-2018 11:43 AM

In December VW lobbied for diesel subsidy to be eliminated.
Volkswagen Calls for End of Diesel Subsidies

Now they are saying that diesel is poised for a resurgence.

9krpmrx8 03-07-2018 11:52 AM

But yeah screw a diesel unless it's in a 3/4 ton and you need to tow.

Take off eh, ya tree huggin hoser.
This is a thread hoping for the return of the wasteful and dirty, dirty, RX!!!

Seriously though, as of now electrics cause more acid rain and algae blooms, which kills coral reefs, and increases CO2 output.

Of course I want the rotary to come back. Just saying I don't like diesel.

I can understand the "electricity causes more pollution" if that's generated through fossil fuels, but in BC, we generate electricity through hydroelectricity, so EVs do reduce pollution.

EV buses also make sense for buses. Instant torque, quiet, and the range problem becomes negligible as long as it doesn't run out of the city. It's better than the soot-spitting hunks of junk we have in our city that are more than 10 years old.

A truck is not a passenger car

Fuck electric BS, it uses more resources than gasoline to make and long term reliability.

You put the gas in and go, no charging BS no waiting, plus I prefer the mechanical interaction with an Engine.

They say Toyota's soon to be out Sold State Battery will be a game changer, way faster charging and reliability...we will see.

Solid state batteries:
For when you absolutely, positively MUST pay over US$100,000 for 20Ah of capacity.

Again, depends on where you live. Hydroelectricity in BC, Canada makes electricity fairly clean. If you use fossil fuels, then I can see why EV is not as clean as some make it sound.

I, too, prefer a gas sports car with a MT, but when it comes utility vehicles like a bus(which you don't get to drive anyway), EV makes much more sense. There are cities that are already pulling this off. They use supercapacitors that charge quickly while the bus is loading/unloading passengers at the stops. The range is garbage, but usually the stops are close enough for the bus to make it to the next stop, and supercapacitors don't wear out like batteries do.

The buses we currently have in my city suck. They are old, spit out a lot of soot and break down often.

Steve Dallas 03-08-2018 07:14 AM

Why are we yammering about buses and batteries in an future of the rotary thread again?

NotAPreppie 03-08-2018 08:29 AM

Because the rotary has no future.

ahem VISION CONCEPT THREAD

Set this trophy next to the one from Paris a month ago. #JustBuilditMazda

...being named the "Concept Car of the Year" at the 11th-annual Car Design Night Geneva held this week during the 2018 Geneva Motor Show is quite an accolade. That prestigious honor fell to the stunning Mazda Vision Coupe, and it's now the second major design award to be given to this concept that points the way forward for Mazda vehicles of the future.
Research

The panel of 18 judges tasked with coming up with the eventual winner of the Concept Car of the Year Award in Geneva included several individuals who are currently serving as design directors at major global vehicle manufacturers. This latest honor for Mazda's stunning concept follows on from the Vision Coupe being named "Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year" last month in Paris at the 2018 Festival Automobile International.

Wow. Reading this – and then reading most of the posts on this thread – it's hard to believe we're talkin' about the same company. Personally, I give much more credence to the quote and awards. They're consistent with my feelings towards Mazda – and what they're all about – for about 50 years now.

Awards given by designers don't equal sales by any stretch of the imagination.
Until Mazda sells SOMETHING that buyers really can't help but throw oodles of money at them for, it makes no difference.

CX-5 sales are acceptable, but after that, what exactly do they sell in any volume?

BC.

Global Sales (world) are going well for Mazda, US market have a problem, but overall things are proceeding according the industrial plan

With that trophy and four bucks you can get a horrible cup of chain-store coffee.

Funny how they are calling it the "Mazda VISION COUPE" when it's obviously a sedan.

That said they should definitely build it! It's drop-dead sexy, and if it's CWD (correct-wheel drive), built well, and priced reasonably, it will sell like hotcakes. #JustBuilditMazda

Also funny nobody has posted links to Mazda's own page on the concept, which has an interview with Ikuo Maeda.

MAZDA: NEXT-GENERATION DESIGN

The newer one is just called VISION Coupe. They dropped the RX.

Also, the definition of Coupe doesn't have to do with the number of doors, technically. It has to do with the rear headroom. If the rear headroom is under a certain volume, it's called a Coupe even if it has 4 doors. That's why some BMW 4-door cars are called Coupes. BS, I know, but that's how the technical definition goes. Personally, I am a 2-door car guy, so I wish they keep the 2-door version.

I do wonder what the engine is in there... Looks like an I4. If they ever make it, I sure wish it's not just another I4 engine. Even if it's not rotary, it can be something more unique. I'd be happy with even just a V6.

They will build it if it has a market and it can make them money... Until then it's all empty talk

I mean, I have seen a Cosmo Sport in a CX-3 flyer before.

What's the chance of an average CX-3 owner knowing the significance of the Cosmo Sport?
