Mazda to push Skyactiv Turbo to more vehicles

From the Earnings report

Going forward, Mazda plans to expand the SKYACTIV lineup by offering its 2.5-liter direct-injection turbo engine on a wider range of vehicles.

Now this is good news. RWD/AWD Mazda 6 please.

NotAPreppie 04-28-2017 11:56 AM

I'm hoping they'll dust off the tooling for the '8 and put the 2.5T in that.

Haven't heard a peep about a Mazdaspeed3 in a while...?

77mjd 04-28-2017 11:13 PM

Good...now it's time to build a RWD 2 door sports car with some decent power.

yomomspimp06 04-29-2017 01:25 AM

give me an AWD sedan like the 6....

That's an idea I can get behind. An MX-7 or MX-8 with some actual power to take on the Toybaru twins would be epic.

NotAPreppie 04-29-2017 10:17 AM

And the R&D is mostly done. Just make sure to crash test a few and the costs are all in the tooling/production.

gwilliams6 04-30-2017 05:18 PM

Knew this would happen when Mazda first stated their turbo 2.5 would fit in all their 3s and 6s.

hornbm 05-02-2017 01:53 PM

come on next gen 6....

CelestialGryphon 05-02-2017 05:08 PM

I'll trade in my WRX for a bitchin' AWD turbo Mazda sedan.

GracefulShanks 05-02-2017 06:57 PM

This pains me so much knowing I'm going to miss out on a turbo 6. I just got a 2017 M6 at the end of February. I got a great deal so I guess I can't be too mad. I wonder if turbos can be retrofitted at least aftermarket.

djgiron 05-12-2017 05:43 PM

I would be interested in Speed 6 or 3, but unfortunately I need to replace my aging Xterra first.

Jedi54 05-12-2017 06:14 PM

dj: replace Xterra with a turbo diesel CX-5 this fall and then get a 6 or 3 some time next year when they release them with the 2.5L.
WINNING.

djgiron 05-22-2017 05:40 PM

I need something i can take camping and tow with. I should get a truck honestly, for as much as my X carries all time. I dont think the CX-5 could go the places I go when heading up to the mountains. I am looking at the Jeep GC diesel (if they ever get cert'd by the EPA and CARB) or the Volvo XC60 T8 (when I can finally test one). Other than that maybe I will wait to see what the new Bronco is going to be.

TC4Tay 05-23-2017 09:06 AM

Mazdaspeed6 would be awesome.

Somebody already rendered it perfectly.

TC4Tay 05-23-2017 09:51 AM

Meh, A speed6 needs to be four door.

Hi Flying 8 05-23-2017 10:29 AM

That rendering looks more like a 3 and closer to its proportions than a 6. That wouldn't be a bad idea either, a AWD 3.

Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 05-23-2017 10:33 AM

I need a modern mazdaspeed6!! Lol, not going to lie though, i like the power in my 6 right now but would love the new modern features.

Jedi54 05-23-2017 12:06 PM

doesn't the current CEO not like the mazdaspeed line?
didn't he make some comments towards it a while back?

as for the 2.5T, I do like that Dave Coleman confirmed that the cars being built today are being designed to ensure they can take the 2.5T if Mazda decides to go that route. It would basically be plug and play. The new KF CX-5 is a prime example.

now, put that in a 6 and they could have a real winner but I worry about what that does to their class leading fuel mileage.
without a hybrid / electric / hydrogen in the fleet, this could be a hit to Mazda's #'s and make them even less appealing to the masses who lets be honest, they just look at brochure specs and pick the highest one.

WaitingforFI 05-23-2017 12:40 PM

yeah....
Mazda Is Too 'Mature' Now To Build You A Mazdaspeed3

9krpmrx8 05-23-2017 02:29 PM

They will probably put the 2.5T's into boring FWD cars.

I sure did.
I love my Cayman.
