Mazda Museum Welcomes One Millionth Visitor

Mazda Museum Welcomes One Millionth Visitor

- Milestone reached after 14 years and four months of hosting study groups and tours as a public service facility -

HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation today announced that one million visitors have passed through the doors of the Mazda Museum since it opened in May 1994. The one millionth visitor was part of a group of 28 students and teachers on a fieldtrip from Kitagawa Elementary School, which is in the eastern part of Kochi Prefecture in western Japan. The Mazda Museum is located within Mazda’s global headquarters facility in Hiroshima, Japan.
A special ceremony was held to commemorate the million-visitor milestone. Mazda’s executive vice president, Takashi Yamanouchi, greeted the guests and presented all the students and teachers with a miniature model of the Mazda MX-5 to mark the occasion.
The Mazda Museum is the only automotive industry museum in the Chugoku-Shikoku region of Japan and draws an average of 70,000 visitors per year. Permanent attractions include a technical exhibition on the rotary engine – which only Mazda mass produces – and displays on the company’s latest technologies. Another section showcases the development history of Mazda’s eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles. Visitors can also get an up-close look at vehicles being built on a working assembly line in an adjoining plant as part of the museum tour. By providing the opportunity to study the automotive industry in depth, the Mazda Museum has become a popular destination for elementary and junior high school social studies fieldtrips, as well as for the general public.
The Mazda Museum will continue to support social studies tours and social science training in the years to come. The facility will strive to provide visitors with a comprehensive understanding of Mazda’s business through special exhibitions and other events in order attract even more visitors to the Mazda Museum.
