Talking Maserati man has car impounded for speeding!!

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/s...-1225925788952

POLICE have seized a $400,000 dollar Maserati after an Unley Park man was clocked doing more than 100 km/h (60 MPH) in the CBD in June.
The 41-year-old was snapped twice by traffic cameras in his Granturismo S Coupe doing 73 km/h (45 MPH) and 108 km/h (65 MPH) in a 50kmh (30 MPH) zone on Sturt St between 4pm and 4.20pm on June 17.

The high-powered car will be impounded for seven days. The man is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

And by "impounded" they mean that the cops "borrowed" it for a week of joy rides. Seems like an overreaction to me.

Actually it is the LAW here, so if you get Caught or Snapped (Laser or Speed Cameras) this is the outcome in South Australia, if you get caught 3 times or more, the car is seized and CRUSHED!!..

This guy actually loses his Drivers License immediately for 6 months plus a fine and no car for a week, second time 12 months with No License and No Car for a month and even higher $$ fine, 3rd time Fine and a crushed car!!..

Even I agree it is "heavy handed" but it is our Law, and there is NOTHING one can do, except not "Speed".

Wait, I'm missing something here. They take your license for 6 months, but your car for only a week? What good does it do you to get it back in a week? Why take it at all if you don't have a license for 6 months?

Yes, you are...I Guess...

You lose your Drivers License for 6 months, so you legally can not DRIVE any car, and The car you offended in for a Week.

Now think about it...You may not "own" the car, it could be a work car, truck, bus...
It could be a family members car or a friends car..either way they miss out too, but only for a week...

Would be great if the car you did not own actually got crushed, and it has happened!!..

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I guess you could **** off someone if because of your speeding they took their car away. Not to mention if it was a work vehicle, like a garbage truck full of garbage.

UHhhh, here in Australia we pay twice the price (almost) for our cars...

Like my S2 RX-8 retails for $60,000...I paid 52K, in the US it is 26 USD..

BUT, the way your US dollar is heading you guys are in for HEAVY price increases on ALL imported cars...your cheap cars may have finished..

i thought that too for a second, but it's australia. so could be outrageous import fees, or conversion issue. it could easily be that much over there.

but wtf, i used to love australia until i hear how strict they are!! damn

Yeah, our road rules are now pretty tough, and I do not necessarily like it, all the speed and stop light camera's, heavy fines etc, BUT, the Road Death rate has dropped dramatically over the past few decades to the lowest in the world, gee my little state used to have close to 300 road deaths a year in the 80's, now we don't even reach 100 in a year..

so I guess that is good....cars are safer too., but car numbers have doubled.

generally I don't like the government to set ridiculous limits on how fast you can drive in certain areas, I prefer they enforce laws that completely get rid of distractions such as cell phones, eating while driving, etc--in general, not multitasking at all while driving.

^ me neither. but i lean WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over toward much much stricter testing requirements. Like, up the age to 18, and you have to get a 90 or higher, not 70, and you have to take more than a couple weeks of classes, and you have to renew ever 1 or 2 years, with exam, not every 6 years withOUT a re-test. there are just way to many stupid a$$ idiot drivers out there..............how we gave them the right to drive is beyond me.

Here it is a $380 Fine and 2 demerit points (you get 12 to lose every/over 3 years, then NO drivers license) if you get caught using a phone while driving, or you must pull over and turn engine OFF to talk/text....or have a Bluetooth connection to talk and drive.
