3400-3500 lbs really isn't that heavy. It's certainly not as bad as people like to make it out to be. And I can't think of any cars that come with 20-22" wheels.

most compact-class luxury cars weigh in at that range... so i can't begin to imagine what fun 400hp+ must be. don't forget it's german horses too.

what makes you think that will shave 200+ lbs off that.
according to automobile mags article about the 335i vs G37 i linked in the G37 thread, the heaviest E92 335 is 3580lb optioned out. base weight should be high 3400-low 3500.

54k base MSRP is not bad, if you wait a few month after supply catches up to demand, you should be able to get it for 500 over invoice. and if you just get some essential options and not get everything, it should be around 55k out the door including every thing. good things come to those who wait.

If anyone in MD DC VA is interested in getting a M3 at launch, VOB BMW in Rockville is taking pre-order at no markup over MSRP. you have to put down $1,000 to get on the list. couple of my friends from my local g35 club are already on the list, so its official. list is growing fast.

$500 over invoice is a pipe dream in la on a newly-designed, face-lifted model m3. in fact, i'd be willing to bet most dealers around here will add some sort of mark-up. (new century bmw, for example, arbitrarily marked up the e46's $10k during the first month they were available.)

it'll be a waiting game out here unless u'r willing to pay a premium.

Do they measure curb weights with or without fluids? The usually refer to them as unladen weights as well, which I would think means no fluids, so maybe that is where the discrepancy comes in.

all i know is, the M3 should be lighter than the 335 because the engine is lighter than the base model inline 6, much lighter than the twin turbo version, and its got carbon fiber roof and other weight saving materials. My best guess is that the starting weight should be in the 3400lbs or possibly even in the 3300lb since the 328 starts at 3351lbs and the M3 has a lighter engine plus carbon fiber roof and aluminum parts

E92 M3 also gets the M button, i think thats the button on the M5 and M6 where normally you are running at 400hp, pressing the M button boost the output to 500hp. So its possible since it has the M button, the M3 will also be running at well under 420hp normally to save gas until you press the M button to get full power.

-note liberal use of weight saving carbon fiber in the interior

i expect less, due to the reason i listed above. lighter engine plus lighter body panels should = lighter car.

The engine is lighter than the S54, which has an iron block. The new aluminum-magnesium N52 and aluminum N54 are probably both lighter than the S54 was (especially the N52), and so it's unlikely that the new M3 engine is any lighter than these two. The E36 and E46 M3s were heavier than the lower 3-series models of their generation, and I'd be surprised if BMW reversed this trend.

i cant see what the button looks like on your picture but on the 335 those four buttons are the next and back track, change source, and navigation tracking buttons.

interior-wise, there are few things i like the e46 design much better. (1) i hate the big dome scoop where the navi is. it's ugly & bulky. (2) the relocation of the cup holders is totally lame. they are basically floating above the knees of the passenger. i think drinks would be much better under the armrest as before. the one problem w/ german car co's is that they tend to over design things sometimes- ie when they've got something right, they don't know how to leave good enough alone and keep tweaking it 'til it's no longer good anymore. honda is notorious for doing this as well.
