m3 engine

My friend has a shop and he got a costumer in with a flooded m3. After the mechanic checked it he said 3 pushrods had to be replaced. The insurance company chose to buy the guy an engine. Anyways my buddy has the engine sitting there. I dont know too much about replacing these...but its a good opportunity to get a cheap m3 engine no? maybe to swap into an rx8...Anyways I'm not personally interested in doing it myself...but if someone here is interested in taking up the project PM me

wait it only needs pushrods? and the insurance company is buying the guy a new motor? What year is this m3? I'm not that up to par on those engines but it's not a overhead cam motor? seems odd to me

By the time you have enough money to put the motor in, you probably can buy a NEW m3.

Rebuild engine=5K
Swap labor=10-15K
Parts=10K

If it's an older M3 it has the S54 3.2L inline 6...the same engine I have in my Z4M. VERY long engine bay...Not sure you could get it to fit without major expense.

If it's the newer V8 then I would think it even more expensive. Either way...a major PITA.

it was like an '02 '03 car. over head cam motor??? I dont know much about engines I really couldnt answer ur question. Is that so tmak? I thought maybe it would be a good project for someone who can do the work themselves...It would be time consuming for me to take up not to mention I would have to dish out alot of money to put it into a car and I just dont have money to spend until I'm done with college.

The engine is going to be little money compared to the fabrication costs. 10 dollar says this project ain't gonna happen.

Nope. Meant exactly what I said...

"This S65B40 is a naturally aspirated, high revving 4-litre V8 (based on the S85B50 5-litre V10 that powers the E60/E61 M5 and the E63/E64 M6 to date) delivers 414 bhp (309 kW; 420 PS) at 8,300 rpm and peak torque is 400 N·m (295 lb·ft) at 3,900 rpm, which represents a power increase of 22% over the E46 M3. The engine weighs 15 kg (33 lb) less than the outgoing six cylinder for a total weight of 202 kg (445 lb). A six-speed manual transmission is standard."

Ah gotcha, though I doubt it weighs the same as the 13B

Edit: Looked up 13B weights, the renesis is roughly 344lbs

Yea, not sure I'd want it in the engine bay, not counting any modification necessary which would probably add more weight..

That would be a fun sleeper swap for anyone who's into vintage beemers... or perhaps a Datsun 510? Not the cheapest project, but people have paid more for less..

Also it isn't the ~100 extra pounds that is the difference for us...it is where that weight is centered. You would have to put alot more of it over or in front of the front axle, and it would be centered higher.

As my Dad said the other day when I was giving him a test drive, "It's more like a mid engine car isn't it?"

I really loved the styling...plus I wanted a 2 seater...very simple interior controls...old fashioned hydraulic power steering (instead of electric), proper 6 speed manual and the little known fact that the Z4M actually shares a number of the M3 CSL components...so it is actually a little more souped up than the typical M3.

all Z4's came with electric assisted power steering. M3's all came with a mechanical pump

*nvm, i misread...thought you had a regular E86
