This is big news in the Corvette world... these are first dyno numbers for the new 2008 LS3 6.2L engine

The 2008 'BASE MODEL' Vette (LS3)

Bone stock LS3: 388 rwhp / 377 rwtq

Not bad, but does it have 4 doors?

:squint: I'm fairly sure it 4 tires. Does that count?

devildog1679 07-08-2007 02:24 PM

The hell with four doors. With those numbers I'll climb in thru the window.

YaXMaNGTO 07-08-2007 02:25 PM

Looks like they didnt waste any time hooking it up to the dyno...

Nice numbers, but very hard to keep it on the ground. Very tail happy.

LOLz yah, just weld them shut!

But if you do the math, and factor in 15% M6 drivetrain loss, the headers/tune setup is making 498HP at the crank... close to LS7 C6 ZO6. Jesus.

Yah but it's old fashion normally aspirated pushrod V8 with super flat power and torque curve. It's not hard at all to modulate that kind of power. It's not "peaky" at all... just lift the throttle a little and get back on it.

Ajax 07-08-2007 02:40 PM

damn.. another new engine? how long were they using the LS2 in the vette? like 2 years? if that?

Yes, the vette had the LS2 for three model years - 2005, 2006, 2007. Short product development cycle. Now I know how the LS1 GTO owners feel!

Rotary Rasp 07-08-2007 04:07 PM

damn, that's a lot of power for a 3100lbs car.

Raptor2k 07-08-2007 04:09 PM

Same exterior?

Same exterior except for some new wheel choices... no badges or anything to clue you in that it's an LS3. Some interior styling changes. Base model price (has the LS3) is $45,170.00, which is $920 more than the 2007 base Corvette.

That was too easy. You should thank VAsasha for that softball pitch......

Cheers

P.S. Damn. GM keeps doing making the Corvette better and better. I find myself caring less and less about the "gold chain" stigma and instead dreaming about how I could possibly upgrade to one.

SlayerRX8 07-08-2007 11:08 PM

This is awesome. I won't be owning an LS3, but I will be upgrading to an LS1 soon. Can't wait to get my C5 vette around 500whp. :D

Keef 07-08-2007 11:25 PM

wow... 50 hp/torque from a tune and headers... However jealous I am of big engines, it's impressive too see the gains they get from small mod's...

sosonic 07-08-2007 11:48 PM

Totally jealous. We can not get Mazda to give us even 50HP extra after 4 years (actually, we have been losing HP, on paper though).

Nah, we haven't been losing HP. Mazda has just been lying about the numbers less each time they make a new HP claim.

canaryrx8 07-09-2007 12:55 AM

this means second hand ls7's will be getting cheaper as well, ls1's can already be had for nothing. If my replacement renesis takes another dump....hmmm..... :evil_laug

so the new Vettes are already on the ground? geese, I didn't expect them this early And those headers make even more of a difference than on the LS6 (the only LS engine I have seen tuned first hand)!

I have a suspicios feeling that if it blows off the first 2 then the other 2 won't be much of a problem. :banghead:

cleoent 07-09-2007 12:22 PM

wow... awesome.

SouthFL 07-09-2007 12:28 PM

Attached is an old dyno of mine from a healthy heads/cam, full bolt-on LS1 setup I used to run in my daily driven, built drivetrain 6sp Fbod a couple years ago. As you can see, the extra cubes, increased development of the factory heads, factory valvetrain, and factory intake manifold have gone a long way for the LS3. Nice numbers for the LS3!
