Is the Lotus Exige S an exotic car?

I was thinking of what my next car might be and I have my eye on the Lotus Exige S. But I was wondering if it is considered an exotic. The Exige and Elise are higher priced cars than average but their prices are not that absurd like some other cars. My dad's
Jaguar XJR was $80k and that is only considered a luxury sedan. So is the Lotus Exige S an exotic?

So your saying it's only classified a sports car not an exotic?

do you have to have an 'exotic' car for a certain reason, i'd say a car with those lines that isnt sold in great quantities qualifies as exotic, but others wont. Get a car you want, not a car everyone else wants.

Anything that even remotely looks like this should be an exotic.

It's exotic also because of how many produced. Finding a certain Lotus can prove difficult. When the Elise came to our side of the pond I remember hearing about multiple-year waiting to get one. The Exige will be almost impossible to get, I would assume.

I wouldn't want an Exige to drive everyday...ever been in one? I've sat in an Elise and not to mention how low you are, the interiors have nothing. I don't even think it had a radio. A little too hardcore for a daily driver.

Its an exotic.
Hand built, seriously overpriced (for what the sum of it's parts are worth)
Youre paying for the name brand prestige- It's an exotic

Also, Where do you live? The Exige will not come to the US in any street legal fashion. only as a dedicated track car -The Exige Cup S
so the closest you can get will be the sport tuned Elise (or buying the Track only Exige, and figuring a shdy way to register it as an Elise, I've heard of people importing Skylines and registering them as 240 SX/300ZX But it is VERY ILLEGAL)

The standard Exige is street legal and has been sold in the US since MY2006. The supercharged Exige, the Exige S, is not street legal, and Lotus hasn't announced any plans to bring it over as a street car. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

i love the car for what it is, whether its an exotic or sports car does it really matter? Kinda like the argument with rx8's being sports cars right? Who cares!

It doesn't matter to me whether it's an exotic or not, I was only asking out of curiousity. And as far as the Exige S being street legal in the U.S. I figured it was since I have seen them listed at www.lotusbeverlyhills.com

I think i remember hearing about the supercharged exige being available here soon or as an option or something. Park an exige or an elise even, in any parking lot then take a look around and then back at the lotus. You will see its exotic real quick!

Edit: click on the link above and look at the pictures and ull see that the supercharged version is very much available to buy.

Lotus announced in late September that they were going to be importing the Exige S, according to this site. Glad I was wrong, maybe some day I'll be able to own one of these cars

mercedes engines are totally different from toyota's, to me, a lotus exige will never be an exotic. They can be as fast if not faster than one but its still a sports car, maybe the epitome of sports cars...

on the other hand, zondas are f#cking bad ***!!! to die for

-handmade
-one of a kind, can't get more rare than that
-priceless (I wouldn't trade my life for any ammount of money)

Have you read the fine print on what another party's insurance company will allow you to rent on their dime? They specifically exclude exotics such as "Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus....."

The next step up in exterior style from an RX8 is an Exige. However, the interior of the Exige is a big step down. I often dream about having an Exige, and paying to get it custom leather trimmed to look nice on the inside as well.

However, I have read the owner forums of Exige on the internet. This may not be technically accurate, but I get the impression that the Exige is glued and taped together. I've read about the stress lines that appear on the body exterior, I've read about the falling off of the headlights, requiring the owner to rig and fabricate a metal brace to keep it from falling off again. And I've read about the poor support from the UK.

Yes it is an exotic, but there can be issues with it that you wouldn't expect nor put up with from a $2000 used car.

If I had the money, I'd still buy. I still haven't found a stylistic upgrade from RX8, counting exterior and interior, short of $180k-$300k.

Exterior style path is like this: Rx8->Exige->(GTR, MT900S, or similar). None of those have both a nice interior and nice exterior. Which means we have to go to true supercars for that.
