Look what is starting to arrive at US dealers!

I'm so excited, but I kinda hope they don't rave about them much more than they do the current models or I'll have to buy one sooner than I had planned :D

looks more edgy like the evo......I like it but that wing has got to go.

BlueEyes 08-08-2005 11:35 PM

Badass!

Baller 08-08-2005 11:42 PM

No it looks like ASS..........

Steiner 08-08-2005 11:43 PM

I dunno Ike. I'm sure the looks will grow on me, but if I'm in the market for an STi I'll go cash in hand looking to corner a good deal on an '05 once I see the first '06 models arrive on the lot. You'll get a good price and the same performance. All the other stuff they've added is very minor IIRC. On the other hand the new Evo IX is supposed to have a bump in midrange and highend power because of the bigger turbo and MIVEC (V.V.T. ) heads. Of course the same applies to the deals you could score on an '05 Evo once the '06 models begin trickling in.

tweak.geek 08-08-2005 11:44 PM

I think you need a bigger exhaust to finnish off the rice look...

therm8 08-08-2005 11:45 PM

Is it the pic, or did the wing get bigger???

Steiner 08-08-2005 11:46 PM

Nah don't worry. It'll look pretty small to you once he gets on the fun pedal. Before you know it you'll need binoculars.

I know they are great cars, but hire great designers damn it.

That's an old chop and not what it actually looks like, though it's pretty close.

I'm sorry but if they had an evo9 in canada, I would make it my winter beater. First thing I'd do is ditch the spoiler.

I go back and forth on which I like better looks wise, to the point where it's color dependant for me.

White STi > White Evo
Black Evo > Black STi
Blue STi = Blue Evo

I feel you. I don't need the hang glider on my trunk either. Is it because it has an FMIC that there is no Evo sold in Canada?

BTW...Ike nothing looks better than black when it's clean but it's like pushing a boulder up a hill to keep it shining. I had a black '02 Spec V and it was a never ending battle. Every ding, chip, scrape or scratch was almost as bad as a swift kick to the balls.

To each their own, I and many others think they look great. Just like people think the RX-8 is ugly and others love the way they look. For me they both look great but in very different ways.

I may just go the WRX route again since the WRX got some very nice upgrades and I could really use a wagon now that I own a house. Those trips to Home Depot would be so much easier if I had the wagon. If they were offering the STi wagon I'd be ordering tomorrow.

I hear you, my Maxima was black and I swore I'd never own a black car again... But the force is strong with this one ;)

Are they offering that new stripped down WRX in a wagon too? It would be somewhat less utilitarian without all the interior creature conforts, but a 300whp WRX wagon sounds awesome to me too. I'd be in the mountains snow boarding, hunting, etc every weekend with something like that.

I have no Idea why they don't sell it here but it's a shame. Maybe I should just buy one under my moms name in atlanta and bring it here. Then I could make all the wannabe evos drool(we only get the lancer here).

It's hard to argue with that

Word is no. But the starting MSRP is still around 25k, and you get the beefier 2.5L, quicker steering rack, nicer/larger wheels, and most tempting, better brakes.

I don't think the human ass was designed to withstand a trip from Atlanta to Canada in those Recaro seats. It would be punishing.

BTW...I saw a Lancer OZ on Saturday that had an Evo 8 hood and a Pep Boys ricer wing. The driver also an MR sticker on the trunk lid. Poor bastard. I blame his friends.

You might as well start a family then;) I don't know about you but i think you'll definately miss the sedan.

If lance armstrong can do it on a bike seat, it's probably a pillow in comparison :D

That's sad man. Almost as sad as the kids that use to put the M3 symbol on the 318is....lol

NgoRX8 08-09-2005 12:28 AM

I prefer the STI's new headlights over the 05. Actually it's a very nice redesign.

It's crossed my mind, that thought and the nice improvements on the WRX for 06 have kept me from pulling the trigger on a 9-2X Aero for the last couple months. Maybe I should just find a beater pickup for $500 :p Now the thing that might keep me from buying an 06 WRX or STi is that it's supposed to get a full redesign for '07 and there are rumors of it being a hatchback.

Definately wait it out man. There's no point in buying the new one if it's basically just a refresh. Either way, if you decide later that you don't like the new design, you can always grab an 06 and probably wayyy cheaper then now. I really hope it's a 2 door hatch. They would cash in big time if they do it.

Look for a used Mazda b series pick up in a 5 spd. Im sure you can get one for real cheap and they are pretty reliable too.

zoomzoom_8 08-09-2005 12:50 AM

are the times out for the new sti yet?

GotBass 08-09-2005 12:58 AM

Kinda looks like it is sucking on a lemon.

BlueEyes 08-09-2005 01:02 AM

guy, just get a roof rack for the STi. I have yet to encounter an object I can't fasten to a roof!

Ike 08-09-2005 01:03 AM

STi should be the same but will handle a little better. New WRX should be a little faster and will handle and break better as well as having more lowend/midrange grunt. If you take into account that the Forester XT was able to run a 13.9 1/4 mile with the same engine as the new WRX then it seems logical that the '06 WRX will be slightly faster than that.

Fanman 08-09-2005 03:35 AM

Definitely a step back for Subie. Dear god that front is ugly now.

Mugatu 08-09-2005 06:31 AM

I agree - I'm not diggin that front end at all.

Ike...would you still think this thing looked badass if it were only making 200HP? I think the looks sometimes get blinded by its blazing perfomance numbers.

DreRX8 08-09-2005 07:23 AM

Love the performance but the styling isn't for me. I'll pass--if I was into those rally cars I'd go for the Evo anyway.

rx8wannahave 08-09-2005 07:51 AM

It's an improvement (better than the concept...FOR ONCE) but as everyone else is saying...for the love of GOD, that tail is TOO BIG!

If I got a STI I would rip that thing off ASAP!

Well, if I ever move to some place with snow I'd either get the Legacy GT or the new version of the STI....(I just hate the thought of putting a car away for a part of the year)

Pretty sure I would since I liked the previous gen. Subarus before they had any balls in the US.

vectorwolf 08-09-2005 09:34 AM

I think it's nice! But, I'm still on the fence about the whole Alfa-Romeo thing the new Scoobies have (I REALLY don't like it on their SUV...).

KYLiquid 08-09-2005 09:38 AM

i love the front end. I was considering a STI as an alternative to the 8, I like them but not so much a fan of AWD

playdoh43 08-09-2005 10:11 AM

looks wierd to me, but it might grow on me. mainly the front... the curves reminds of of the sunfire/firebird/GTO... the previous gen looks pretty good for what it is and better IMO. it went from semi-classy to... rather immature looking. I like the wing :) all rice stereotypes aside, it looks rather sexy.

MadRonin 08-09-2005 10:17 AM

I was driving home from the shore on RT95 yesterday and was commenting to my wife that the perfect car to drive on this fucked up highway would be a rally car. :p

What's the suspension like on the STI vs the 8? Is it softer, meaning can it take bumps better? Most road hazards beat the hell out of the 8's stiff suspension and low profile tires. I love PA, but I hate the roads here.

It has inverted struts with very long travel. It's not exactly a cushy ride but things like potholes and speedbumps probably won't phaze the STi as much as the RX-8.

Short of a luxury SUV, I've never been in a vehicle (car or truck) that can take a pothole without punishing your spleen. The STi might be a little better but it's still a stiff ride.

rx8wannahave 08-09-2005 11:16 AM

Alfa-Romeo thing the new Scoobies have
Yeah...I'm not sold yet on the open bass mouth either...

It might be a look you have to get use to...not sure...???

I swear that's part of the appeal of the Impeza and Subaru knows it. Every time there is a redeisgn the guys over at NASIOC are up in arms about how horrible the new ones looks and proclaim how glad they are they have the previous style. Then slowly almost all of them come around and end up liking the looks and often end up buying one. I guess it's sort of like music, there are CDs you can buy and like instantly but often they get boring rather fast. The CDs that I consider my favorites now I wasn't so sure about at first, but after listening to it more I like it better with each listen.

P.S. The new front end is supposed to be paying homage to Subaru's roots as an aircraft manufacturer.

smrx8 08-09-2005 11:54 AM

i heard the 2007 sti is suppose to have 2 exhaust outlets is this true ??? any more hp increase?

the front end pays homage to a plane? I'd say the, ahem, rear Wing does a fine job on its own :)

i think the new wrx looks pretty cool, still a little out there, but thats just my opinion, the performance of it is always enticing.

My wife has a Honda Element and she does just fine on potholes, but I don't want one. I've been thinking about the STI for a while. I don't want to give up the 8, but if I start my own business, I'm going to need something that can get around in inclimate weather and still have that fun factor. Since a company vehicle would be a write-off (or at least partial) I can get both. ;)

If I do get one, I may have the dealer swap trunk lids between the STI and the WRX with the low profile spoiler. I'm not a big fan of the STI wing, but I may be able to use it as an advertising gimmick. Not sure how, but I'll think of something. :D

RA-Eight 08-09-2005 01:39 PM

For performance value, I love this car, and that alone gets me past the exterior design.

My 04 STi can take bumps a bit better with more control, but it also is much more jarring as well. It feels more solid and less fragile then the RX8 did, but at same time, you hit a bump and form the sound and feel, it makes you think you just bent a rim. Personally I don't like it. This is my daily commuter car, and when these struts go, I'm having cheap Impreza RS struts put on to save money, but make it more friendly.
As for the 06 model. I have to see one in person before passing judgement. They haven't changed the power at all, and handling is a bit better, but only people that go to track and push car to it's absolute limits will even notice the difference. As for the wing, they should make it a delete option. However, the fact that people bitch about it proves the car has reached more of a majority of enthusiasts who don't give a rats ass about it being a rally based car, and only care about it's power. That wing gives it the distinction, and shows it's heritage, but most of us don't care about that, we only see it as ugly and too loud.

m477 08-09-2005 04:52 PM

Nice pontiac.

Seriously though, it's a nice car... but when does the RWD coupe version come out? :p

canaryrx8 08-09-2005 05:33 PM

hard to judge from the pics, I'm sure it's a pretty bitchin' car, would love to see what would happen if they came out with an EVO or WRX coupe, to me the only down side of these cars is their appearance, what's with all the newer model front ends nowadays? It's like every new car has to have this huge out of place hole in the front or something...ugh
