Someone commented earlier that the RX8 is being copied.. I see it as the 8 starting a trend.
I see the 8 as retro-future, I see a lot of cues from the old days in it, but freshened and modernized. Sharp, stunning.
The link above is 100% pure retro... and I dig it. Too big, too heavy for my taste, but.. aww hell just click the link. :D
the 8 is not a pioneer of style nor did it start a trend and takes styling cues from a lot of previous cars. God the 8 and that hot rod concept have nothing in common. You guys need to take the rx8 goggles off. The 8s nice ( i love mine) but its far from this ultra exotic special king of style you all make it out to be.
Feras, maybe you need better glassess. The 8 has 1940's car stamped all over it. It also has a fair bit of SA/FB in it, and even FD. If you can't see that either, glassess wont help.
I think you can't see past the angularity of it. But that's for another thead. THIS thread is about the Holden Efijy.
NOthing in common you say? Dammit, look at the !@#!! fenders up front, for one. Sheesh.
The 8, after nearly 50 years of soap bars IS refreshing, different and new.
Wanna start a fight? Then start another thread for it, and I'll gladly engage you in a design discussion.

im not gonna start a fight, because i think its silly. I think the fenders on the efijy harken more to a retro 40s and 50s americana that became popular well before the rx-8 was released mostly from chrystler with the prowler and the pt cruiser and things like the ford thunderbird, and are being spread around now into even more manufacturers (SSR and HHR). American Iron is the inspiration here not hiroshima quirkiness

This Holden, at first I thought it was a '53 Merc. I swear they stole the Merc grille. :D
The prowler, otoh, harkens back to the 30's cars -- true motorcycle fenders, completely detached from the body. The classic rod look. After all, the first rods were T and A model Fords, stripped of all fluff. Real rods don't even have fenders. :D
The 8 simply was the first production car in a long, long long time to have pontoon fenders of any kind, which is why I consider it fresh, and why MB, Nissan and others are now busy copying the thought. I think the last pontoon car before the Rx-8 was the '55 Ferrari 250 TR (Thank you, Signore Scaglietti.
)So in a perverted, twisted way, you and I agree

Now.. if someone would design affordable cars designed along the lines of the Talbots and Delahayes (especially those bodied by Felloni et Fallachi) and early Pininfarina designs...*drool*

edit: dammit, I've managed to hijack my own thread.. arrrgh. :D
