Lancer Evo Upkeep vs Rx-8

Just wondering about If the evo requires the amount of upkeep and cost as the rx8 does?

Well, more in some areas less in others. Since I just got mine I can't speak from personal experience but I've done plenty of research. Just to give you an idea for the Evo, if you go to a dealership for new breakpads you looking at 400+ just for the cost of the pads. Odds are with an Evo you'll need a new clutch much earlier in life than an RX-8. Making it to 30k without the clutch slipping on an Evo seems like quite the accomplishment. The Evo also requires Synthetic oil. I knew all that stuff going in and it gave me reservations until I had owned it for a couple days. Now I really could care less if I have to replace my clutch more often or spend more on regular upkeep, this car is simply brilliant.

Honestly if the Evo appeals to you but you want a more reliable, lower maintenance, and more daily driver friendly car get an STI or even an '06 WRX with a couple minor mods. That is of course if you're ready to move to something a little more intense than your RX-8. For most people the RX-8 is a much better daily driven than the Evo, the STI is somewhere between the two IMO.

It would also depend on the streets you drive on. In Toronto, it would be very hard to own such a fast car. Especially considering the stiffer evo suspension. If you have streets/roads to enjoy such a car then I would pull the trigger on the evo. I've never driven an evo personally but it doesn't take a genious to know it is a racecar for the streets. The 8 is just a well tamed car that handles great and can still get you speeding tickets. For the amount of performance the evo creates, it makes perfect sense that you'll be replacing more parts quicker then an 8. A tradeoff that seems to be a very good one. I would buy one if we could get them in Canada. I'm actually thinking of putting my dual citizenship to good use.

Well I have experience with both so here it is..
oil change on rx8 - 4 quarts of mineral oil and filter ~ $12-15
oil change on evo - 5 quarts of synthetic oil and filter ~ $30-35

evo needs brake pads and clutch sooner than rx8.
So the maintenance is significantly higher than the rx8.

The RX-8, other than paying attentioni to the oil level is no different to maintain than my Honda Minivan, actually. Just needs regular oil changes (every 3K), and I'm sure I'll need to do a brake pad replacement while I have it since I drive it harder, but other than that, it's a pretty low-maintenance car. Just give it LOVE ...
