Any thoughts/info regarding the Mitsubishi lancer evolution?

saw a comercial on it the other day, and i like the looks (much better then the mazda6) but havent really heard anything good about mitsubishi.

291hp@6500, but weighing in at 4500...

It's being discussed in this thread. It's also about 3500lbs, not 4500lbs...thank God!

Got the 4500 off the spec sheet on their site. be great if they did drop it to 3500.
EDIT: saw the weight at 3570, line above is 4500. looked at the weight, eyes just went up a line.

thanks for the link

The only Mitsubishi that I've ever owned started using a lot of oil at 50K miles and needed a rebuild, after only moderate driving and meticulous care. But since that was 30 years ago, it's probably not relevant today...

Guess i'll check the mits forums. wondering about service and support. mazda (like ford has been) is severly lacking in the service department and tries to screw over the owner. at least from my experience. ford has been that way for a while and refuse to buy a ford now. looks like mazda is next on the block.

I traded my 8 for a 05 Evo. I loved the 8 but with two kids it was to small. The Evo is a nice car, doesnt ride as nice as the 8 but when you hit the gas you forget about it. Handles very well in the corners too.. I think it a nice car for what it does. Its sporty/quick, has four seats, usable truck and handles well. I only thing i had to do to it was remove the rear wing!!! i didnt like the big wing.

Because all the people who drive them, drive it like they stole it and wreck them like women on cell phones putting on makeup in suvs. (Sorry it's stereotyping but it's a good comparison)

Actually they got really expensive to insure right about the time the first '03 models started selling on autotrader.com for less than $20k. I remember it well.

paying 150 a month now for the 8, so sure it can't be much more

have a higher payout due to work reasons.

the 8 is at 50k and i think the engine is going, took it in twice and both times they said it was fine.

well, dont want 60k to hit, the engine go, then sitting with a car i cant use. (dont have 5k for a new engine laying around)

Oh, you'd be surprised... Call your insuarnce company and ask, if you're under 30 I bet it's close to $100 more a month.. When I insured mine 3 years ago there was one car I coul have bought that would have been more to insure (non exotic), that was the Boxster S. Thank god I'm old with a clean record so it doesn't make a whole lot of difference what car I drive. However, I know of people on the Evo forums that are young with a ticket or accident that are paying around $500 a month.

Rates are high because of theft claims. The Evo is targeted the second most of any car on the road after Escalades (percentage wise). Even if they can't steal the car there are lots of expensive parts to steal. It's also too much car for many of the owners to handle so accident rates are high and those claims are expensive. Just a simple fender bender and you're replacing things like the FMIC, full front end, and possibly expensive aluminum fenders and HIDs. The side impact safety ratings are also pretty poor due to lack of side airbags. Top it all off with a car with nearly 300hp and razor sharp handling and you have one of the most expensive cars on the road to insure.

An RX-8 out of warranty might not be a very good car to own if you don't have a decent amount of dispoable income, but don't think the Evo is either. The Evo requires synthetic oil and premium fuel. Other wear items are a bit expensive as well... Want to stick with the Advans it comes with, they're $250 each, if you don't do your own brake jobs a brake job at a Mitsubishi dealer is around $600 I believe. Plus, it's not like you can take it to most brake places, for one you wouldn't want the pads they have, and two very few of them even carry the pads you would need. Now, if you do your own oil changes and brake jobs like I do it's not only rewarding but a hell of a lot cheaper. Still, you're looking at about $250 for a set of decent pads and the various lubes and greases you'll need. It may be losely based on an econo car but very few of the parts are from an econo car so they're not econo pricing.

The new one may be a little different/better in regards to maintenance and insurance, but then you're looking at 35k as an entry price.

Guys, I had a dream last night that I had an Evo X and it wasn't really that fast. Why would I want a car if it isn't even fast in my dreams? Mitsubishi really let me down this time. Do you think there's any sleeptime aftermarket parts I could get to make it fastar?!1!

Saw this in Best Motoring. Old New STI/EVO fighting it out.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=MBhP7KAd-oc

Coles notes: New STi pwns all. New EVO X slowboat. EVO IX better than new EVO.

Since it's BMI, it may be 'scripted'.

That video is great but I sure wish we had something like this for the USDM since engine choices and curb weights vary between models. Looks promising for the STI though. I may trade in my Evo VIII yet.

I hate when companies try and take a car and do things with it they shouldn't...which just drives up the price and alienates those who made it what it was

the new EVO X is a failure. evo 9 is the best year evo. superb track car. look sexy as hell.

but i still go for the new sti. all the sti are nice, its just understeers more than evo, because evo is all computer. new sti has a longer wheel base and they really changed alot stuff on suspensions. its a better car, unlike evos they going down hill

^ in the BM video, the new STi seems to be quite neutral as opposed to the floundering flipper whipper new EVO X. But it could be the drivers. Didn't know 5spd is available on the EVO too.

If you think the Evo 9 is sexy then of course you won't like the X. The 9 may be a lot of things, but sexy is definitely not one of them.
