Srt4 is perhaps the best performance to dollar ever offered and can easily and affordably be moded to make very fast times. But your right it is not and RX8 and I wouldn't trade mine in for one either, unless I had financial problems then I would consider it.

SRT-4 is not just a neon....its the best bang for the buck espeically if your into modding. That car can be a very fun project car....it can be made to look good too...iv'e seen a few hooked up ones and they look pretty nice.A SRT-4 with Mopar Stage 2 from the factory will blow away any NA tuned 8.....too bad the 8 looks, handles, stops better.Oh well.

dude its a good amount faster than an Rx8.
Plenty of them are trapping OVER 100mph in the 1/4 mile (13.8-14.1).

Thats a good amount quicker IMO.

Of course I would take an 8 any day over an srt4.

I agree that it is more than a little faster than our 8s. I don't get why people like to bash it as it is just a neon. It is an awesome bargain and it sounds really good.

I wouldn't be too quick to bash the SRT-4. It's a pretty damn good car, sans the LSD and the zero camber on all tires. Since it's a factory turbocharged car, don't be surprised when these little things are pulling 249 whp with only a couple of modifications. It's been done!

It's quite a bit faster than the RX8. Seeing that the SRT4's 1/4 mile ET is about 1 second faster and it's traveling at 100 mph...that's about 10 car lengths and it's pulling away.

Ohhh and don't be fooled by the FWD, with the right driver a SRT4 can easily hang and beat an RX8 on the track. How do I know this? In the 2003 One Lap Of America a stage1 SRT4 came in 8th out of ~70 cars. It beat cars like Covettes, Mustangs, EVOs, WRXs, M3s,...etc. Remember this is a car that is 200 lbs less than the RX8 and has more power throughout the rpms. It's only downfall is the FWD.

It's a great car and certainly not worth bashing.

I agree that the SRT-4 is no piece of crap neon. It seems like a great car for the money. However, my close friend was seriously looking at one. Ran all the numbers on a buy vs lease. the lease was the same to buy. So on a 5 year lease he had the car paid off, which means the SRT-4 is pretty much worthless in 5 years. So he went down the street and leased a black GT RX-8 for less money a month

I think the SRT-4 is a pretty good performance deal for the money. It's like a modern day interpretation of the classic muscle car - take an existing model and drop in a bunch more power. Rough and not refined, but the whole point of the car is highest HP for as little cash as possible.

However, neons are pretty much crap when it comes to reliability. Even if the motor was engineered and (more importantly) assembled properly, the rest of the car WILL disentegrate around it in a few years.

That is probaly the funniest thing Ive ever read on this forum...kudos :D

The SRT4 is fast! So what, its still a neon. If Chevy made a Chevette that ran 12s in the quarter whould you run out in get it? If Ford came out with a Pinto GT that was 0 to 60 in 5 secs would you run to the dealer? Hell no. Because those cars are severly ugly. Fast doesnt make them cool. If you dont believe me...drive an SRT 4 slowly down your local cruisin strip. See how many people check out you "whip."

The only exception to this rule is if these cars are "Pimp my Ride" cars. That would give them enough charecter to make them cool.

I don't know if the car that finished 7th had any suspension done. However, I will argue with anyone trying to tell me that an SRT/4 is even a 'good' race track car. I was able to catch at least 2 different test drives of this thing on (was Laguna Seca or Detroit...not sure) the track. The Dodge was taking corners like a guy with a Tripod. The rear outside tire was getting off the ground ridiculously. Not a reason to rate it as a 'grandioso' in my book.

of course its no EVO, but for its price, its pretty darn good, you dont have too many options for around 20k.

Well it had a ringer driver (National club racing champ) as well as a Chrysler engineer for a co-driver. However, that car was VERY close to being stock. The SRT-4 is also dominating it's class in SCCA Prorally and doing pretty well in autox. The Neon is a good chassis for the track and has been for year, in fact there is an entire race series for them (remember the Neon ACR), and they have done well in autox for years even before the SRT-4 existed. Keep in mind some of the best autox and track cars out there will lift a tire, especially the FWD ones. No FWD is not the ideal setup but there are quite a few FWD cars out there that can be made into great track cars, Civics, Integras, Neons, Mini to name a few.
