Just saw a Pontiac Solstice on the road
So I was doing my usual lunch time bird watching walks ( for those of you who didnt know.. Toronto has some hot as hell women...when spring and summer hits, its insane ).... so anyways I pass by the Hilton and what do i see parked infront? PONTIAC SOLSTICE! You know i had to walk right up there and stick my nose where it dont belong... I got a nice up close and personal and its quite nice...but the guy had this stupid *** bra on it that totally ruined it....car has a nice exhaust note
Knowing that this car isnt out yet I ask the Bell-hop what the deal is... turns out the guy is some GM big-wig from Detroit.
anyways I know its not much of a story but i had to share it
cheers

I heard the Solstice did 60 in the low 7s. Guess you'll have to wait a little while longer for a faster version with some decent speed. Then again ..it's still a pretty good deal at the price they're asking.

More importantly, the new Miata is going to kill both of them in every comparison test because it's about 300 pounds lighter but nearly as powerful. Acceleration might be about the same, but the Miata will handle with much greater agility. Not to mention the Mazda's far superior steering.
For those who are interested, I have both the 2006 Miata and Pontiac Solstice in my price comparison database (url in sig). Pricing is VERY close unless you want leather, and then the GM car is cheaper.

So you drove the Solstice and Mx-5? If not how do you know the Mx-5 will be as superior as you say? The Mazda will "feel" like it handles better, but I seriously doubt that the disparity will be large enough for the average person to make one car that much faster than the other. It is good to see that Mazda lowered their intended price. Looks like Mazda is getting concerned, particularly since they usually stay out of the direct comparison type marketing and let their cars sell themselves:

In the end the Mx--5 will be more nimble, but the Solstice/Sky were built with the purpose of handling, and won't be slouches. It's a niche market and there's plenty of room for a new competitor.
