EU Just pulled the Trigger on my first Diesel

Today, I went down to the local Audi Dealer and ordered a 2012 Audi Q5 S-Line to be delivered July of this year.

Specs:

2.0 TDi (170hp) Quattro 6-speed manual

Exterior:
Brilliant Black paint
S-Line Exterior packet
Audi Black Styling package
20" Titanium package wheels
Xenon Plus LED package
Removal of Model Designation
Black Roof Rails
Privacy glass
Panorama Roof
Heated Mirrors

Interior:
S-Line Sport-packet Interior Black leather, Alcantara center, with Silver Stitching
MMI Navigation Plus
Audi Music Interface
Bluetooth
Bang & Olufsen Sound System
Silver Accents

I decided to pick the car up at the factory and spend the day getting the tour of the factory and the Audi Museum. Will have pics when this long wait is over..

No not really it took a lot of damage when I hit the wall. So I'm just trying to get it put back together exactly how it was before.

Sucks to hear about your skyline... beautiful car.

Definitely envy you for getting to go to the factory and do that stuff... would love to have that chance.

Nice car. Did you get a manual transmission on a diesel? If so you are pretty hardcore.

Yeah I got the manual only because I hate driving automatics.

I am not a fan of autos either but I have tried diesels (320d and some others) with manuals and found little joy in them, the engine pull for 0.5 sec and then you gotta change gear. Besides having one car as an auto allows you to perfect left foot braking in terms of feel for rotating the car.

To each its own, good choice though, I love wv / audi interiors.

I understand what you are saying, The Auto for this Q5 was another 3000 euro, so I can't justify spending that on something I can't stand to drive. Before I made this purchase I would rent a car once a month for a weekend and go on a road trip during the late fall to winter. I would always get a diesel and make sure they gave me a manual also. I don't really need something that has a lot of pull it just has to get good gas mileage and be able to tow the RX8 to track events.

The bottom line to this, Robert, is that we're going to see a huge rx8 transformation for the next season?

sweet. I have the 140 hp TDI, have gotten 49.6 mpg over a 650 mile tank of fuel.

Not sure if yours is effected by the hpfp failures: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-0...ump-flaws.html

Well I was hoping I could have it ready by the end of march but now I'm thinking about redoing the whole car and not racing it til 2012.

I hope, I don't have those issues since mine hasn't even been built yet. Is that for the US models only, mine is German spec?

All of the TDI engines are built in Germany. They've redesigned the fuel pump three times, but there's no telling if the redesigns have gotten into any vehicles yet.

If your fuel has better lubricity than in the US, you might not have issue -- but if someone accidentally puts a bit of gasoline in the fuel station tank, you'd not be immune.

Talked to my dealer today about this and he said the TDi's that are made for the US are a little different than what Audi puts in German spec cars. Mostly he said it had to do with how the diesel fuel was in the states vs. European diesel fuel. He also said that my TDi wouldn't be able to run in the states on the fuel there.
