Yes.

You already have 2 opinion. You should have another 10-15 opinions by the end of the day. That should give you quite a bit to choose from.

The reality, no one really knows the benefits of a proper break-in for our engine. That doesn't stop people from coming up with theories and procedures. Doing a Google search against the site:rx8club.com Engine Breakin PRocedure will give you several you can choose from, if you opt to do it at all.

Breaking an engine in "correctly" won't cause any harm, but it might be beneficial, even though no one has ever proven it to actually BE beneficial. So it's one of those "why not? "

You will have to end up making your own choice.

Break-in a new or a rebuilt engine is a good thing. That is how you will know if the engine could handle long distances without any issues.

What RIWWP said is true. Also, you do not have a new engine, you have a Mazda re-manufactured engine that has both new parts and parts from other failed engines in it that were still in spec and reused. Some believe that a break in is not needed due to the fact that rotors and housings are used.

So, you know what they say about opinions right?

Not always true. in rare cases when they are out of used parts, they will just build the engine with all new parts, it will still be called a REman cuz it came from a Reman plant.

7 used to be able to order such engine, simply because used 7 engine parts is sooo rare.

will u be able to get one? who knows. luck. but just because it's all 100% new parts does NOT mean its good. best if u can get one of these engines then have it hand re-spec by good builders.

They won't rebuild it with all new parts. There is a member who works at the reman plant and pretty much explained in detail how the process works and what parts are new, reused, etc. He was asked politely to stop posting about it or he would risk losing his job. IIRC they don't even make new 13B-MSP rotor housings anymore. But yeah I guess if they had no reusable housings or rotors left they would have to get them from somewhere.................

i know u were talking about sleepy-z, but if there is no used parts they dont have a choice, it happened before.

Mazda still makes new rotor housing, just not sure if mnao would still import them, but consider they still sell fd housings i would say it will be another couple years before they will stop making them

Just checked and Mazda has 49 13b-msp rotor housing in usa, 11 intermediate housing. So yea its gonna last them a while.

I remember a discussion a while back between MM and NYCGPS about buying new housings and even though the computer said they had so many, they were not able to actually buy them. But that was a while back.

So you guys are saying Mazda does not make renesis housings anymore?

That would be bizarre

I wonder how they'd support the Star Mazda racecars, then. Same engine we have.

I got a "new" engine about a month ago today. I'm not sure about where your reman engine came from, but I was told from the (very knowledgeable) service rep at Montgomery Mazda(Charlotte, NC) that Mazda is breaking in the reman engines before you get them. He basically told me to drive it like I stole it as soon as I wanted.

I'd wager that flies for yours as well but if you have any doubts I'd say baby it like they mentioned. There's a good 3rd party recommendation guide for the break-in period as well... It was either Racing Beat or Racing Roots - can't remember which.

I know it isn't exactly relevent to this thread but if I remember correctly Pettit Racing told OD to keep it under 4k for the first 5k miles on his new Renesis, but then again that was a Pettit built engine running boost but I'm sure the same could be applicable, Pettit does know their stuff.
