Well yea, when they gonna have it in US ? :(

I am in the middle of some decision, I can either trade my Mazda3 for something else or just get my father's CX-7 and give him my Mazda3.

I want to actually trade the Mazda3 in for a CX5/7/9. but there is no reason to get the current model when you know that the SkyActiv version will be here in a few months. but I kinda need a big car right now ... Ahhh :(

notice the Japanese price, the SkyActiv preorder actually cost less than the current model

1,149,000(skyActiv) vs 1,199,999(current model)

if you want a skyactiv mazda you better bet on CX-5, next spring is worldwide available, if Mazda respect the deadlines...for Demio skyactiv the deadline (6 months ago) was first half of 2011..

the current deadlines for CX-5 are Frankfurt for world launch and first 3 months of 2012 for availabilty for customers....

Unless you can afford both, I would also suggest waiting for the CX-5. It's not that large of a vehicle but it is going to be so full of cool technology :ylsuper:.

Big car? I don't know what to suggest. CX-9 drives like a dream but I know you are not that fond of Ford. When you drive it you know it's a built in Japan machine though.

Paul.

I hope I can wait until then ... I forgot, Is CX-5 gonna be 4WD/AWD or Just Failed Wheel drive?

and from the inside pics it looks like it can only seat 4 ... like the Rx-8. who knows.

I know CX-9 is made in build in Japan but ... if I buy it now, SkyActiv comes out couple monoths or a year later. I'm gonna feel super stupid and slap myself everyday. :(

damn I hate moments like this. I need to get something that I don't want to get it yet ... but it seems like I have to get it now grrrRRRRrrr :(

Oh man those pics are SWEEEEET ! thx Matt ! ;)

Right, almost forgot about the i-stop feature. hmm, is it gonna come to the US? last I recall it should be an 800 dollar option. but EPA does not want to change their test method to include the amount of fuel it can save. It should be something really cool for city drivers like me.

I'm all for it and 800 bux is non-issue, but most people in the states have no idea what it is and they probably won't get it.

The car of the future...smaller and lighter. It's like computers and cell phones, they're getting smaller and smaller for sure.

Matt posted this following information in another thread:

"Speaking of Mazda 2 (Demio) and SKYACTIV..

This IS the First Mazda to use new Engine and Trans...

This 1.3 litre WILL get 63 MPG, taken from Japan's all new Economy Cycle regs (very similar to USA)."

Matt, if they can give us more than 50 mpg in the US, I smell a winner.

Paul.

Is the Japan's Standard stricter than the US? or less ?

Let's see if it's less, take a 10% "hit" from that number, still gonna get 50 something and it's not a hybrid ... Will people here believe Mazda I wonder.

Now it seems like Mazda "suppressed" Toyota in Engine technology ... ?

i will post some test in japan (especially the suggested comparo with jazz/fit hybrid) when is possible...

some toughts:

1) this Demio will NOT have the special, patented "4-2-1 exhaust manifold" because there is no room for it in current Demio, it have a simpler manifold. i'm thinking that the maximum power and max rpm are limited due this "issue"

2) at this time there is ONLY a CVT skyactiv Demio, not MT...i'm waiting for a MT car

3)for US market i will expect an AT (not CVT) car

for sure those engines are IMPRESSIVE, can't wait for a test drive (cx-5, i suppose)

final consideration: the company is FULLY involved for this skyactiv launch (see into 787 topic the badge on the orange jackets of the people present at leMans for the 787 parade ;) )

this SKYACTIV thing is very, very ,very important for Mazda.......

nycgps 06-10-2011 06:35 PM

yep, very important.

I think they did it because of the same reason they bought NSU license ---- they want to be unique/different.

At least I'm sure I'm gonna go get one when it's out :)

I just hope that it will come with i-stop ... it's a pretty important feature for city driving.

MattMPS 08-01-2011 02:59 PM

first road impressions from Japanese magazines/websites...

http://gazoo.com/NewCar/VehicleInfo/...398b3&pageNo=0

the test was conducted at well-known Hakone mountains roads, the car-journalist have used the "intelligent drive master" (i-DM) for minimize fuel consumption.

the result is a fantastic 23,7 km/litre, very well, considered the mountain course....

a lot of torque at low rpms is cited...the engine is often into 1000-1500 rpms also in not plane course.....

i-stop it was used not many times ,due a very hot day and in such condition the computer will disable i-stop to keep air-con on....

zoom44 08-01-2011 03:06 PM

thats like 55/56 mpg. in the mountains thats really excellent.

MattMPS 08-02-2011 12:12 AM

another test conducted from Sendai to Tokyo, around Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures for well-known reasons the course make a detour to a mountain course...

total lenght 400 km, expressway, city and mountain detour

27,1 km/litre

fantastic.....

new Cx-5 diesel is preliminary measured @ less than 120 g/Co2 (MT, standard power, 2WD)

for comparo:

annonuced -for september- BMW x1 s20d efficient dynamics (active aero , regenerative braking, start/stop, 2WD, special green tyres, 163 hp) is officially rated @ 119 g/Co2.

fuel consumption is strictly related to Co2 figures......

just for talk about some figures of those SKYACTIV engines......

ASH8 08-04-2011 06:02 AM

See JDM Mazda Demio (Mazda 2) SkyActiv 1.3 first month orders were DOUBLED what MMC forecast !!..

Their allocated target was initially 6000 units, but actual came in at 13,500!!!!...in it's first month!!..
That is AMAZING!!

So it looks like the news is out...Mazda may in time have some supply problems with these engines... Particularly now Ford has no parts supply input.

No wonder they are slowing rolling them out as a Skyactiv model option....like the first export SA engine will be in the Mazda 3 here, and MA calling it the SP20, for the 2.0 litre SA.

MattMPS 08-04-2011 06:12 AM

Ash, rememeber that the 70% of orders are of SA Demio.....HUUUUGE success----

I have a feeling these cars are going to be a big hit here in the US because the MPG figures are much more promising than anything else we've seen and are over 1/2 the cost of a hybrid.

I wish I could have held out for the Mazda2 variant to hit the states. It would be great to see Mazda get a serious boost from these sales and then maybe, just maybe, keep the RX going!
