MSRP is listed as $38,500. Most buyers will have to pay a premium though.

If it gets a full 500hp...it'll be the least-expensive 500hp car ever made, by $30,000.

Thats impressive.

Well I love my rx-8 but I have been thinking the same, I think I will sell mine in spring after it comes out of storage

BlueEyes 10-07-2005 04:28 PM

why'd this get moved from discussion, to general automotive (where it belongs) then back to discussion. It's about the cobra, not the 8.

Overport - It's too bad they couldn't dress the interior up, though.

I was bummed looking at the pictures. A lot of the same hard plastics and cheap feeling materials that exist in the plain old Mustang, it seems...

There is a ton more leather in the GT500 than the regular models.

Look a little harder. ;)

That's how they make the cheapest 500HP car ever.

mike1324a 10-07-2005 11:20 PM

Yeah the interior is a little better but not nearly enough, still alot of plastic and cheap material.

He's correct. Even the dash is leather.

I may have to check it out. Although, the dealer markups are going to be insane (for the general public who doesn't get A-plans!). Here's a site for selecting different colors/stripes.

Thank you ADRIAN! I've been looking for something exactly like that!

How much hp are you looking for ?

The PTP's kit will be insane when it comes out.

Besides, how can they say something feels cheap if they haven't seen it or touched it in person? I agree on the regular 'Stangs, tho. Corvettes used to be real bad, but they've gotten better.

unlike current gen cobra, the next one will keep the single live rear axel suspension from the regular stang. good for the drag strip, bad for all around track handling.

That's also the biggest complaint a lot of people have about it. It makes so little sense to take an evolutionary step backwards in a car like this. The cobra actually handled well for a mustang and they say the current gen mustangs handle pretty well, but I don't see how they can handle even as well as the previous gen cobra with that solid rear axle.

RX8_Buckeye 10-14-2005 03:22 PM

Going with IRS on the GT500 would have pushed the price into the upper 40's. It would have been a bad business move. Sure, they will lose some potential customers who demand that extra edge in handling, but they will gain many more by making it the most affordable 450-500hp ever. The solid rear axle does a pretty good job in the current Mustang, so I think the importance of IRS is greatly exaggerated.
