but its still fairly impressive. 12.5 hours , 1,457 laps ,776.5 miles, avg 43.9 mph on a 16 gallon tank til it was dry. 48 1/2 mpg

At 43.9 mph, lots of cars could get that. The key is average as if they were using hypermiling techniques, they weren't at a steady speed. This one was far more impressive. You'd have to read through his entire forum thread to get the details but he was much more realistic in terms of driving technique although still did some hypermiling techniques.
