Dustin Hoffman ended up driving away with Katheryn Ross in the Alfa. I don't believe they ever showed Ann Bancroft in the car.

I love Alfas (owned three in my life), but they are SO slow. I've never seen any good mods for the spider.

what about a mid 80s mercedes 500 SL?

or made a mid 80s porsche 911?

or an early 90s jag?

or a 60s mustang?

come on, tell us what your wife wants you to do. you only have 31 posts and never posted location. worst case scenario you just make a new account and excitedly come onto the forums saying you just bought an r3.

do not buy an 80s-90s jag. Those things are more headache than anything else. The other options from Kersh are sweet though

my 1958 MGA is parked next to the rx8 in my garage, so its not a far fetched idea. The car has been in the family for years and needs a little restoration, but it still starts and runs everytime. All of these suggestions are great project cars, so best of luck in the decision.

You already have a "handling" car why get another? If I had two cars I'd opt for something my other car isn't. So if you have a well balanced car whose main attribute is handling then get a car that is more of a brute like a Vette.

I'd say an Evo IX but thats not a convertible. Perhaps a Z4 (athough that is not much faster). Used Solstice GXP?

I was also thinking about a 70's vette convertible.

Early 70's Z28/Trans Am?

I still think the MS is the best bang for the buck.

Get a 1st gen Miata and turbo it. The rawness of it will be the perfect complement to your 8. A late model Miata will be too similar to the 8 and really old British cars will break down all the time.

As a former Miata owner, there is nothing like having a top-down toy that you can spend more time driving and less time fixing. Miatas are damn near bulletproof, which isn't something you can say about any post-war Italian or British sports car.

Is this something you want to enjoy driving, or something that you want to admire in the garage (most likely on jackstands)? Answer that, and you'll have the answer to your question.

As another option, have you considered an AP1 S2000? For the same price as a Mazdaspeed Miata, you could pick up a nice early S2k. Completely different feel than an MSM, but a very entertaining top down sports car.

Not complaining... To get MSM or S2K, I would have to kick in a little $$$. Or I can find some old slow European car (Alfa/MG) for less and it won't cost me anything but humiliation at every stoplight.

On to the bribe, my wife wants me to do something I don't want to do and she has offered to buy me a less practical sportscar to compliment the R3. There is a 2005 mazdaspeed miata available for my budget, but she thinks I should get something totally different and old.
I think it would be cool to have a Black RX8 and a Black Mazdaspeed MX5, she thinks it would be cool to get a real old car like an MG or Alfa Romeo.

This is a great problem to have, what would you guys do?
I think you should get her the same thing you bought and then u would have matching cars! LOL

My vote is for an old British car. My first car was a 9174 Triumph Spitfire 1500. Parts were not hard to find at all and they were really inexpensive too. There's just something about British cars to me, I can't explain it, but yes, while slow and a sometimes a headache to maintain, I have always felt like I was part of the car when driving one, more so than I ever did on any of the other cars I've been owned/driven. Its not about the speed, its about the experience.

Its going to be a toy right, so why does it have to be bulletproof? Wouldn't "realatively reliable" be good enough for its intended purpose? All-in-all, I don't think you can go wrong with an old Brit, an S2k, MSM, or MR-S. Have fun shopping though, don't rush into it!
