You should probably post this up on the STI forum to get some more expert answers. Why do you want to get an STi as your winter car? That much power and that large turbo and summer tires will make it just as bad in the snow. You'll still need to get good snow tires either way.

My advice would be get a regular Subaru over an STi and solid snow tires.

If you just want a winter car just get an old SUV. You should be able to find a million cheep ford explorers, blazers jeeps etc.

^^Agreed. You are way over thinking this. Keep your 8 and either get snow tires and drive slow or get a FWD civic and save gas and stay out of the ditches.

As for engine mods done to the STi..... I honestly can't even tell you where the rotors go in a sideways motor like that. Be careful, it might have cylinders.

^^ hahha the rotors are in the trunk!
Yeah, your best bet is to get an old SUV or 4x4 for the heavy snow-days. Good luck!

nasioc is going to be able to help you out with this a lot more. I'd see if a local nasioc member who knows his stuff can take a look at the car for you. They might be able to identify a fair amount of information from a few pics, but seeing it in person will help a lot.

Thanks!
PS, I have posted this on iwsti as well...
most idiots who crashed RWD cars in winter because they have summer tires on.

Im dead serious.

whenever I walk pass some RWD cars, for some reason I always look at their tires first, and a lot of times I see "summer" tires on them, even when its like 20 degrees outside ... I guess these morons don't know that when the temp drops lower than 40 their "1337" summer tires become completely useless ...

as for the STi, the biggest problem with Boxer engine is their leaking issue. and most people will beat their STi to death before selling it. So you might want to take the car out to some shop to ask them to look at those areas.
