Well that just boggles the mind. It shouldn't be able to be that fast, given the numbers, but there's the proof.

I still want to see other reviewers pull 5.5 seconds instead of Mazda's rated 6.2 seconds. That's a disgusting difference.

Well, it is kind of chilly up there...the cold air mod was worth about .2-.3 seconds on my Volvo.

Let wait till more people clock their 0-60s to see. 5.3 is a crazy 0-60 for a mazdaspeed 6.

Guys, don't forget Mazda changed the gearing to be a little more agressive. So the initial numbers you saw no longer hold.

Exactly. Mazda actually listened to the original reviewers. Supposedly there is actually more then just a final gearing change that occured after the inital negative press. Though I agree that the cold temp probably helped immensely (its current in the 30-40F's in most parts of canada, if not cooler), its still much faster then expected.

Since the dimensions haven't really changed, there really isn't anything stopping someone from swapping the original 6 body kit on the car. You'd lose some intercooler efficency, but that could be fixed with a FMIC .

I agree with you TOD.

1. I don't care if it's stiffer... the 5 door looks better. The Evo IX Wagon drops the same or almost as good track times as the sedan. What's wrong Mazda? Your engineers not good enough to design a good enough strut tower brace for the rear and if necessary some underbody braces?

2. I don't care if it IS functional... that rear spoiler is fugly!

3. What the hell with that rear end?! The black plastic crap around the exhaust. Whose idea was that? They should be fired!

4. The buldging raised hood because a hood scoop isn't "mature" enough? WTF?! A nice subtle one like on the Legacy GT looks perfectly fine to me. Worst case scenario... just use a dman FMIC instead... jeez. I checked one out at the Tokyo Motorshow... the hood id frankly just too damn tall! I mean like... imparing driver vision bad. I like to see the front of my car or most of the hood from the driver's seat... makes me feel more comfortable... better able to judge distances for tight maneuvers. This piece just sucks.

5. The wheels... those are so so.

Otherwise... it's a nice car. Just dunno if I'd drop the change to buy it over a Legacy GT.

A canadian mag had already test drove it. They got a 0-60 of 5.3s. I hope more mags canget ahold of it soon.

For now, I hear mostly those in Canada receiving them. Probably do to orders that were put in vs sitting on lots.

A few forum members have one now. The hood buldge is about 3-4 inches heigh, and only seems to make parking more difficult, it doesn't impede normal driving unless you like having the seat lowered to the floor.

Here's some photos of rainman's MPS 6. (Including hood buldge shots).

The TMIC venting system is actually pretty nice. Mazda's basically designed the scoop to be on the front of the car, instead of on top of the hood.

The rear spoiler is just a lip spoiler...would you rather they put a giant wing on the car?

I agree about the fugly wheels, and the fact the rear seats don't fold down will put off alot of people.

So far the general owner comments are...

1) Goes like a bat out of hell.
2) Slight inital turbo lag, rediculous low end grunt
3) Can feel the extra weight when turning/braking.
4) Brakes are fantastic
5) Grip is incredible.

I just got back from the Mazda dealership and spoke to their sales training manager. He had been on a two day drive & learn with the MS6 and he loves the RX8 but told me that this car blows it away in the performance catagory. Both in speed, brakes & HANDLING which really suprised me. This dealership also sales Mitsu Evo's and he says this car compares with one of those maybe just a little slower, but without the rice boy looks and all the comform and attributes of the V6 Mazda. Guys I am really thinking about this car. He says the 0-60 is close to 5.0 seconds flat. He told me that the pre-sale numbers are HUGE and they will have a hard time keeping them on the lot.

36 month lease for 339/month 3784 due at signing. Seems like a pretty good deal. I'm trying to talk my wife into considering it since it's time to replace her current car.

Which is what I was generally insinuating. Although even for normal driving it's NG for me. I like the better view when doing things like pulling up behind another car at the light... basically anytime I need to fairly accurately know the size of the front end. I'd be willing to try it, but I don't think I'll like it.

The TMIC venting system is actually pretty nice. Mazda's basically designed the scoop to be on the front of the car, instead of on top of the hood.
Yeah, you can see it in pics of the underside of the hood. It's clever, but that doesn't change my opinion of the hood height.

The rear spoiler is just a lip spoiler...would you rather they put a giant wing on the car?
Not really. It's big, think and extends from the rear of the car. It's more like the Mint Blue RX-8 bodykit spoiler than the RX-8 Euro lip spoiler. No thanks. I prefer the lip on BMW's, Toyota's, RX-8 Euro lip spoiler... even Subaru uses a similar one. The one of the MS6 is *** ugly. I'd rather have a better looking, but aerodynamically useless sotck M6 spoiler or none at all.

I agree about the fugly wheels, and the fact the rear seats don't fold down will put off alot of people.
Yeah the wheels are a total.. WTF?! The rear seats... can be a turn off, but hey... neither do the 8's. Neither did the '91 Nissan Sentra SE and SE-R. not that big a deal...

So far the general owner comments are...

1) Goes like a bat out of hell.
2) Slight inital turbo lag, rediculous low end grunt
3) Can feel the extra weight when turning/braking.
4) Brakes are fantastic
5) Grip is incredible.
1)... that's good news.
2) probably not such a big deal when you think about the 8's power band
3) only matters in autocrossing. FOr a daily driving... not such a big deal
4) hmm....
5) hmm....

Now if only it looked better....
