I have driven an VIII. Changed wif frd for a day.
"Power!" - Step on accelerator - :D Very Raw and much more uncomfy ride than our 8. Hell, u can even feel the boost in 5th gear.
Ours, a different class. Luks win hands down and like the others have mentioned, acceleration is linear and smooth so u cant and shouldnt really compare them.

I too swapped wif a friend my ride for his Evo 8.
Acceleration wise, dun need to compare, FI definitely better.
However like wat everyone mention, u can't compare Rx 8 and Evo.
Ride wise, RX8 is more refine than evo 8 coz the evo is pretty raw.
Looks wise, the Mit is not in our category of head turner!!
Not a fair comparison between these 2 though!

depends on what you want, ive driven the evo 8 and i have to say its an awesome car, but its very different from my RX8 i wouldnt compare them
i kinda wish i could have both. they both have their individual charms, the evo 8 is a performance machine through and trough it is awesome...fast acceleration and cornering but no creature comforts...the rx8 has a bonus in being rwd im really loving that aspect, it doesnt have the same acceleration but it feels more fun to me, thats why i chose it... but i still want an evo

hm, u mean the suspension in an EVO is very bumpy? as in more bumpy than RX8? i must say that the RX8 is more than adequate in everyday driving, but i found myself craving for more power and more "push into the seat" feeling. hows the handling for the EVO too and what about the fuel consumption?

The hanlding of the EVO is amazing. Its got tons and tons of grip, and it pretty neutral in corners.
The steering is kick ***. Its very very quick with a small fat wheel (it steers like a go-kart).
I havent had enough seat time in an evo to really say if its better or worse than an rx8...but from the time i have had Id say that it handles every bit as good as an rx8.

I actually owned an Evo and basically their both good cars. The fact of the matter is stock vs stock performance the Evo pretty much beats the RX-8 in every way (I think they are about tied on braking). The Evo can have bad launches in which it bogs and you are working on nothing but the 4 cylinders but usually it surges forward with urgency. If you get a launch in the sweet spot the closest comparison that I've felt was when an airplane takes off. You get the turbo spooled and then let the clutch out then the car plants you firmly in your seat. The first time I took a friend for a spirited ride in the Evo every 10 seconds he would utter the words "oh my god!" (I am not making this up). When you get to triple digits the RX-8 seems to become the faster of the 2 IMO (especially once you are over 110-120). The Evo doesn't lack for attention as some people here would have you believe it just doesn't get as much as the RX-8. I had a guy drive light to light at 5:30am asking me about my Evo while I was going to work one day. In my RX-8 I had a lady ask me at a light if I had the car custom made. As for fuel consumption the Evo has a small gas tank but has better gas mileage than the RX-8. You would get about similar mileage between fill ups though. While I enjoy my RX-8 I do miss my Evo. Somebody tell me how I can become the next Jay Leno so I can have these cars and more!

if your not 1st your last
i drove a evo 8 at a dealer testing a yr ago
great power,nice handling,greeat braking
but the rx8 feels tighter,i can dig the nose on my 8 harder into turns.
p.s my 00 s4 destroyed a 04 evo 8 with exhaust.but i blame it on the evo driver
at a street track

And that steering... if you sneeze, you'll end up in a ditch.
The only seats I've found to be (slightly) more comfortable are the ones in the 8.
On the other hand, the power comes on in a big bang when the turbo spools, and the steering is SO quick, it takes constant focus to keep it on the road, and the interior is... yawn.
The suspension if punishing. Fantastic on the track I'm sure, but on bumpy roads, it HURTS, lol...
Still, even having said all that, I have to admit I still love it
It's not a matter of which car is *better*; it's a choice of which *type* of car you want. For daily driving, I wanted something more civilized under my four-decades-old butt

IMO, EVO VIII's aren't really that fantastic. The only appealing thing is it's insane power. It's been awhile since the United States has seen such a small car with so much stock power. The dealership I bought my 8 from is right next to a Mitsubishi dealership. I saw both cars, but the one I really wanted to drive was the RX-8. I used to drive a semi-riced out Toyota Camry (I was 16), and the EVO most definitely plays the part. Sure it has a turbo, but the fun factor will quickly die off after 10k. I've driven my 8 over 10,000 miles, and she gets better with age. I love the looks and compliments I get; I don't think I would ever get the same respect if I had bought the CT9A. The 8 is useful, inexpensive, powerful, and dead sexy. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some pancakes to eat.

I driven an Evo, my bottom line was that it reminded me of a glorified Civic with a Turbo, the so boring interior. Also I like the fact that no one cane fake up an RX-8 such as in the respect of a bodykit of an EVO on a Hertz rental Lancer.

I can already tell you have never driven one. SO your opinion of them is a moot point.

Easy modability for staright line speed, corners whatever.

On the other hand my friend with the rx8 loves it, but is geting tired of how slow it is (compared to other cars in its class) and is thinking of a trade in..

Its ok and unnecessary.
Bot the RX8 and evo are great cars. But i would never expect you to admit it.

Test drove the Evo VIII before i got my 8. I must say it was a complete dream. The FI was amazing when i stepped on it from a dead stop. I think I felt my heart flutter when I did it. But, i went with the 8 becuase of the style, not the power.

hi lawerence,
i happened to own both, an evo7 and a rx8. i love the massive power (not to compare to those US high torque cars) from evo and thats why i am still the first owner. i like my rx8 because of its refine and precise driving like a bmw. but there's no way i would swap my rx8 for a tasteless bmw318 or even 325.
both interpret the road differently and yes, both are greats cars!

Handling that is equal to (if not better than) the rx8s. REAL backseat functionallity (the rx8 seats are too small for an adult for more than 1 hr).

Nope you are wrong. I know a couple of people with evo's they freakin love them (one with 40K miles).

I understand now...you hate the evo because of the looks (hence all the rice comments) and probably because its superior in every performance aspect...so you bash it to feel better about your purchase.

Holy thread resurrection!
Haha that was one of my old posts. Once you get comfortable here, the arrogance decreases somewhat. I can draw it on a graph if you like.
Seriously, I have no real opinion of the EVO VIII. I lean towards the RX-8 because I own one. If I owned an EVO, then I would be more biased towards that. Personally, I've driven an EVO, whether anyone believes me or not, and looking back, it's pretty damn fast. I can't really say it lacks anything. It's a great car for those who want box-stock turbocharged mania.
I retract my earlier statement.

hi 06!
its just a matter of preferences, anyway we cannot compare these two...
evo is more like a rival to sti, where rx8 is more suitable comparing with 350z.
it is easy to see that many here owns an evo or sti along with an rx8, as they serves different purposes...the evo makes you feels like a hero where rx8 makes you feels like a star...
