Mr. Bean is teh pwn! Yea I have the same feelings. I thought it looked book in the first photos, but figured it would look smaller when I had something to reference, guess not. :( I'm sure it will still handle like a champ though.

I'm not liking the roof line and the head lights. The R34 didn't really look like anything else in the Nissan line up at the time, why does the R35 have to? I'm really not liking where this design is going.

BlueEyes 10-19-2005 03:38 PM

What does this car look like in their lineup?

I can sort of see some G35 in it, but that's really looking. I think it's a pretty unique car as far as Nissans are concerned. I like what they did, I just hope it isn't too big/fat.

BlueEyes 10-19-2005 04:15 PM

Considering the G35 is a Skyline what else would you expect? That's a pretty drastic reskin though...

zoom44 10-19-2005 04:26 PM

i know im just saying i dont see the big deal i guess.

From my pojnt of view the looks have always been an aside for the GT-R much like the STi and Evo. If you like the looks it's just gravy.

BlueEyes 10-19-2005 04:49 PM

Well I couldn't upload it to the site, because of the 'partially loaded' problem. But, I made this little comparo. I don't really see any lines shared between the two cars.

Nice Comparison BlueEyes. Yes, I don't see anything in common between the g35 skyline and this new one.

s13lover 10-19-2005 05:02 PM

I see alittle Koenigsegg in the roof of the Proto

Dude! It's identical! Look at the rims on the cars, it's both 7 spokes! Coincidence? I think not

I'm being sarcastic by the way.

Yea I'm kind of in that same boat. I see what you're saying Zoom, but the reskin is pretty nice. The headlights are eh, but the rest looks nice, just a little too big.

Aoshi Shinomori 10-19-2005 06:04 PM

BlueEyes, I won't quote you to save the others from all the photo-age, but I disagree. For some reason I see it like Zoom mentioned. Now, of course they aren't all that similar but by looking at the two, I see a great resemblence. The lines are different yes, but similar curves, body shape, wheelbase and wheelwells. I don't know, they just seem like they're closer than distant cousins to me.

BigOLundh 10-19-2005 06:48 PM

i want to see mazda come back with a new 7... and blow this thing out of the water.

I will say... i think the new GTR will look real good in black. I'm not a big fan of the black/silver two tone in the front bumper.

zoom44 10-19-2005 06:50 PM

this is what i see. i could be wrong. but like ike said- the gtr styling was always not the point. in fact maybe even counter to the point. nice looking yes but a beast under the skin. sleeper like. without talking about its performance i dont see the point of the styling excercise

edit well i guess ill have to figure out that patially loading thing now :o

Japan8 10-19-2005 08:21 PM

I agree with Ike. The looks of the GTR have never been real "pretty"... like the STi and Evo. It was about performance first... function before form... based off the Skyline chassis. Don't like the rebadged Skyline GT350/G35c look? I can see you guys know little about the the Skyline line. Take a look at the last two generations of 4 door sedan and 2 door coupe Skylines in comparison to the GTR models. The GTR just looks like a Skyline coupe with a bodykit. So what's wrong with this new one? It looks even LESS like a Skyline coupe with a bodykit and more like a car that just shares the same platform (like the Volvo S40 and Mazda3).

Whether or not you like the styling... honestly it looks like a case of tuff luck. Not just because you have no part in the decision making process, but also because some of the same styling cues seem to be a current industry trend. The front, for example, we see if on VW, Audi, Evo X, Galant...

Personally I don't think it looks bad... as someone mentioned it'll probably look mean in black... and it'll probably perform like a champ. The LF-A? If you hate electronic nannying, DSG/SMG transmissions and such then it's going to suck. Besides that... I dunno... Toyota can just never seem to make a car that I like and/or respect... both from a styling perspective and a performance perspective. We'll see what happens, but I have my doubts. Of course Honda will answer with a new NSX... which will probably get it's ass handed to it like in the past as well, but handle very good and be over-priced. Interesting times... makes me wish I had a lot more income.

Yeah, I must be imagining it.

edit....
well my conparison pics won't upload. Anyway I think there is an obvious similarity with the invisable A-pillar, the thick C-pillar, and the roof widening as it slopes back. And I just realized you where talking about the g35 since it has 7-spokes. my bad! :D

I want to disagree with you wholeheartedly about the NSX. That is one of the nicest cars I have ever had the pleasure to watch around a track. Sorry to take the thread off topic, but what was so much faster than it 16-17 years ago? Nothing. It spanked Lamborghinis and Ferraris around just about any track, but was a tad slower in the straights. Around Nurburgring(sp?) the NSX-R is only about 13 seconds slower than the C6 ZO6(7:46-7 and just under 8 minutes for the Honda). I usually enjoy readin all of your posts, and this one was great too, I just disagree. :)

Hey... I did admit it handled very well and I can appreciate handling. When it first came out I thought it looked hot as hell. I still think it's a good looking car. BUT... when it came out at around $70k it was a good deal. Now... ouch. The world isn't all about straight line performance, but I sure as hell wouldn't be tracking my $70k-100k+ car... that lowers the "real world" price/performance I could get out of it.

I sort of agree, I'd rather it have been kept at 60-70k but that didn't happen. I'd still track the car, that would have been why I bought it...to drive it! I love the way it looks even to this day. I guess to each their own. :) Now I need sleep, RX8club is distracting me from my studies :p
