GT-R Proto (latest verson of the GT-R)

After the GT-R Concept unveiled at the 35th Tokyo Motor Show in 2001, Nissan presents the GT-R PROTO, a vision of the next production model that will be on sale in 2007.

Exterior design

The design of the GT-R PROTO expresses GT-R heritage, coming from the first model PGC10 (1969) through R34 (1999), in a new and expressive form.

From its original roots as a pure-bred Japanese performance car, the new GT-R will now be a car sold globally, recognising its ability to compete with the very best in the world. For the first time in its history, the new GT-R will be designed as a specific body-style, and not derived from a sedan.

The form of the GT-R PROTO instantly expresses its purpose and potential, but in a way that is unique to this iconic car.

At the front end, the single centre air intake is designed to optimise airflow and to strongly link the identity of the GT-R from R34 to GT-R Concept (2001). Front fenders are uniquely designed through intensive analysis of the airflow around the tyres and the air vent behind the front fender also optimises aerodynamics. The sides of the body are sculptured towards the rear fender, expressing the power and dynamic tension of the car.

The overall shape of the body combines solid and smooth surfaces. The unique C-pillar crease is designed for optimum aerodynamics, reflecting the racing DNA of the GT-R.

The rear of the GT-R PROTO is strong and defined. The signature four ring-shaped tail lamps provide an immediate visual link to previous GT-R models. Four large-bore exhaust pipes complete the purposeful look.

The GT-R PROTO provides for the first time a clear indication of the final design direction for the production model to be

The front looks more like the Skyline concept from years ago.

Japan will attack Pearl Harbor again before anything that futuristic and sexy makes it to production.

BTW...Anybody else think the front end looks a little like an SRT-4?

i disagree with the futuristic and sexy statement. i dont really see anything similar to the srt, only the part between the head lights a little.

Yeah the fascia, not the whole front end. That's what I meant. The design of the grill and intercooler is somewhat similair IMHO.

It looks like the nose of the SRT is sticking out from the middle of the front bumper.

Anyway, I like the style, they just need to kill off the SUPER long headlights. Make them look more like an updated version of the R34 headlights placed where the glare is on the illustration. That would make it TOTALLY amazing

The grill looks almost exactly like that of the Evo X.

The Eclipse concept E looked like its drawings. This is only a concept(closer to the final version then before but a concept none the less) so my guess is that the actual concept does look like this but maybe not the final production version.

Long headlights aren't going to go away. The next Z is going to have something similar. It's due around 2007 as well if I remember the article correctly.

According to the JDM mag I was skimming... Nissan is looking at AWD again. But no ATTESA.... they are looking at developing an entirely new version with no relation to the previous one to power this car. The front and rear frame are rumored to be aluminum space frame. Various engines have been tested... S/C V6 to elec assisted TT V6... it's looking like TT V6 is the winner. Price... estimated to run 8-9 million yen ($80k-90k). Beautiful, but will never grace my driveway at that price...
