i wonder how much a set of tires for the GTR will run you... a car this quick and this heavy will eat them at a very very very rapid pace...

nice -- too bad I lot interest in the GT-R months ago. Unless you have $100,000+ sitting around collecting dust, you will not get one of these. At that price there are so many better options.

In three months I plan to be in an 08 Z06 (yes new) - which will run about 75 out the door with the deals I have found. Unless I could get a GT-R for 80 out the door, I jut wouldn't care about it.

GTR would roughly be about that price man, besides, its Japanese, find a good dealer, should be cheaper by all means than 100k, they started to sell them already in Thailand, its going for about 8-9million baht, which is like about the same price as a porsche Cayman S here in Thailand (our cars are 3 times as expensive as in the states) so shouldn't be over 80k is my guess

Or not even a furai...just a fast rwd mazda...

I am really getting tired of the ..."well its made for handling" excuse

In the days when nissan altimas get 270hp, Mazda needs at least a strong 250-290hp car.

Handling is nice...power and handling is better....end rant

Hahahah... I don't even know where to begin. In the spirit of keeping on topic, I'll let this one slide.

Yes, my B.S. in Automotive Technology Management and my senior thesis in dynamometer testing.

Think about the power loss this way. Let say you have a car rated at 120hp at the motor stock. Now let say you strap the car to a dyno and the car puts down 100whp. Most people would say that there is a 20% drivetrain loss. This is true for the vehicle as it is configured stock. What people do not understand is that that percentage is not a constant when changes are made to the car. That 20% can not be continually applied as changes are made to the motor unless heavier drivetrain components are added to equalize the equation.

Let's say that you put an exhaust on your car and dyno test it again. You see that the car is now making 110hp. That change did nothing to the drivetrain of the vehicle to increase the power needed to rotate the clutch, tranny, diff, etc. So, now the car is making 10hp extra, not 10hp plus an extra 2hp (20%) for drivetrain loss. There was nothing done to require the drivetrain to consume an extra 2hp. The drivetrain still only requires 20hp to rotate it and that has already been accounted for.
