I think the wrx fanboys need to give it up. Geez ike, you really love to flame anyone that doesn't directly compliment or agree with you =/. There are manufacturers other then subaru you know! I don't know how many times I've mentioned the Legacy GT to people as an excellent card to test drive...but I mention a mazda car, and suddenly I'm a fanboy.

Uhhhh, I prettymuch confirmed that he should take his dad to see the Avalon. My father likes big cars as well, had I taken him to see the Mazda6 or the Legacy when he was looking for cars he would have wondered why I was wasting his time. I would imagine Steiner's dad isn't much different, but I could be wrong.

By the way Steiner, my Dad in the same scenario ended up buying a Magnum RT. If your dad likes the looks that would be a good choice as well.

 

We looked at the Avalon. Not enough trunk space, if you can believe that. Golf bags are 48" and the trunk in that car only holds 2 or 3 of them at most. We talked a little about the Ford 500 as we were leaving the Totota dealership, but my dad had heard the same things most of us have about that car. After that conversation we decided to swing by the Subaru dealership. We knew the Legacy sedan would be too small, but he wanted to see the wagon. As soon as we pulled up I could tell he didn't like it though. He spent most of the time telling me how silly the STi looked and he couldn't understand why people ever buy them. LOL. I didn't tell him my Evo was basically the same thing minus the wing.

It had been a long day so we decided to call it quits after seeing the Legacy. I can safely say though, after watching him instantly turn his nose up at the sight of the mid size Camry and mid size Legacy, that he's going to need a full size sedan. He's set in his ways and I totally understand why. He's a retired college golf coach and regularly participates in amateur senior tournaments with his 3 best friends. He usually drives so the car will need comfortable seating for all four of them, decent gas mileage, and room for their clubs in the trunk. That big Buick he drives does it all...even with a somewhat antiquated design and a 4 speed auto.

Ike...I'll definately suggest he look at the Magnum. He actually likes the lines on the 300C so hopefully he'll be a little more receptive to thw Dodge wagon that than the Legacy wagon.

Are there any Mercury Marauders left on dealer lots? I can't remember when they stopped making them. Could be an option.

Yeah, based on your requirements, I figured that anything but the biggest of the big sedans would be out. I take it wagons, SUVs and minivans are also out?

Well, I've got a better idea. Tell him to get a new C6 Corvette and tell his friends to find their own way to the golf course

He doesn't like the gas mileage of an SUV, any car with a V8 or the looks of a minivan. That's why the Crown Vic and Towncar are out.

From a selfish perspective, he knows he's not gonna get much trade-in value for a '97 Buick with 120k miles on the clock so he's not gonna even bother to trade it in. He's basically told me that, after he's got a new car, the old one is mine if I want it. That Park Avenue would be a great daily driver and perfect for me since I'm on the road all the time with office equipment in the trunk. I think I could change around my insurance, save a little money and finally do those totally irresponsible, absolutely unneccesary, and completely juvenile modifications to the Evo I've always wanted to do

I'm hijacking my own thread now...but that pic above is of ATP's GT3071R turbo kit. Even on 91 pee-pee gas I should be well over 400whp. The catch is I'll need a standalone software pakage, like an AEM EMS, to run it. Just the software alone costs as much as the big turbo kit though. I'm looking for a happy medium right now...a bigger snail but something that can be run with EcuTek software. We shall see. The initial hardware costs of these big aftermarket turbos are only a fraction of the $$$ I'll need to fork over to do things right.
