Garage door opener remote control situation

Basic situation, I am now in an apt complex where my garage is not directly attached to my place. So if i leave the garage door opener in the car and then close it and run out, I can't get back in. What I've done the last 2 weeks was bring the portable clicker to the garage, open it, then leave it on a shelf and drive the car with the homelink mirror programmed and grab the remote on my way back inside. This isn't ideal if I have groceries or whatever.
I have 2 possible solutions.

1 - Very small keychain remote. I have not found much information on the sizes of them and are hard to judge from photos. Does anyone know a good one or website? Im trying to avoid just guessing.

2 - Get one with a good enough range that I can mount it by the front door and just open it on the way out of my door and then close it from the car when I drive out. But again, I can't find much information on the range that most will work from.

Im sure someone on here has run into this. So can anyone provide some tips/advice?

Since your garage door works with the home link you have a few options. At home depot they make small keychain openers. I just got one for my girlfriend since our garage isn't attached to our house, that way when she uses her remote start she can crack open the garage from the house. They also make wireless keypad garage door openers that you can just stick to the side of the building. They run around $35-$40.

I will have to check out home depot.
When you say: "Since your garage door works with the home link" what does that tell me? Something about the frequency?
Thanks!

What is wrong with the opener, such that you cannot take it with you in the car, and cannot keep it on your person walking to and from garage? If it has a visor clip, it will fit over your pocket, keeping both hands free.

How can you possibly leave it in the car, close the door, and run out by accident? There's no way. Unless you were determined to do it on purpose.

Also, try to get the key for the vault release lock on the door.

I dont want to carry the stupid plastic thing with me. I want a tiny keychain one. Carrying something back and forth is a pain when I have to carry other things back and forth as well. Its like the advanced keyless on the car. No its not necessary, but its damn awesome to not have to put a key in. Credit card key in my wallet 24/7, havent seen it in months.
