So what was the original intention behind the design of the suicide/freestyle doors? What this just to be different than all the others or was there a specific reason behind their design? I'm assuming just to make access to the rear easier? Maybe?

I know you're trying to be phunny, but realize all soviet cars were stolen.. yugo was a copy of a fiat 124 (or uno? Can't remember, but it was definitely a tiny fiat..)

Lada copied larger fiats..

I don't think they made an original car during the soviet era. Perhaps now they do, but I've not seen any recent russian tin.

Yugo was from Yugoslavia which was not part of the Soviet sphere of influence. Also, it wasn't a "stolen copy" but a licensed design.

Volga was Russian had their own designs and they were no too bad looking.
