Ford owns MAZDA

ford owns 33% stakes of mazda. but it seems like here in North America Ford runs all the Mazda Operations.

I feel bad for Mazda :)

BlueEyes 05-11-2005 04:10 PM

You should feel happy. Ford is rich.

dmp 05-11-2005 04:10 PM

okay then...sure...whatever.

DreRX8 05-11-2005 04:12 PM

This just took the honor as today's most idiotic thread. I feel that much less intelligent for looking at it and responding :(

ZoomZoomH 05-11-2005 04:15 PM

Actually I could care less--if it wasn't for Ford we probably would not have the RX8 or Jaguar. Like the previous poster said--Ford is rich.

ZoomZoomH 05-11-2005 04:25 PM

hey don't diss the DURATEC v6 engine.... it's a good engine design, done by joint venture between Porsche and Cosworth!

Get your info right. It's actually the Ford Focus II and Mondeo that run with 1.8, 2.0 and 2.3 Mazda engines (called New-I4 internally). The 2.3l engine in the Escape and Ranger is from the same engine family, a Mazda base engine.
The V6 is probably from Ford (Ford USA, as most Ford V engines). The small I4 diesels are from a joint venture with the PSA group (Peugeot). The Lion diesel V6 (2.7l) is mainly Ford though.

It's not sad, it's a sound way to do business. Mazda can keep its specific core values while taking advantage of the Ford part bin and knowledge base.

The proof of the sanity and the non intrusion of this politic, is the fact that the RX8 and next MX5/Miata are 100% Mazda DNA.

foxman 05-11-2005 04:38 PM

Isn't the RX-8 horn from Ford? I would like to thank Ford for that nice loud horn that gets the attention of other drivers and pedestrians alike, not at all like one of those wimpy import sounding horns. :p

Speed-ER doc 05-11-2005 04:38 PM

Mine does. :)

100% mazda DNA for now and soon to be FORD later.

thats the proof of sanity.

So I guess chrysler owns mitsubishi then because they share parts and platforms.
The dodge stratus is a mitsubishi eclipse.. the chrysler sebring was at one time too.. and it even had the mitsu engine in it.

Ford doesnt own mazda. They have vocal say in their business owning 33%. They're business partners and it's good for business.

It helped keep mazda alive when they tried to take on toyota and honda in japan (and nearly killed their company doing so).

zoom44 05-11-2005 05:04 PM

ok thanks for that bit of info. thread closed
